Hi
I have an African Grey Parrot less than 1 year old.
He used to eat lot of sun flowers seeds. He sometimes also eats other food, but the main food was sun flower seeds.
1 week ago he stopped eating sun flower seeds, it's like he doesn't like it anymore. He just throw them and don't eat them. He's very active and very healthy and play all the day but doesn't eat sun flower seeds anymore. He eats other foods like penauts, apples, pears, carrots, brown rice ...
Anyone can help why he doesn't eat sun flower seeds please?
Thx

Your parrot should only be eating sunflower seeds as a treat. They are like eating a plate full of french fires. Smart bird!! They need fresh fruits and vegies, grains, legumes, nuts (no peanuts), pellets and some chicken and hard cooked eggs once in a while. Please brush up on the proper diet for a grey. They have a huge need for calcium rich foods.

SB is right on as usual. I'll second what she said.

Sunflower seeds are fine as a snack, but they really do not provide good nutrition. This is a bit like a kid suddenly refusing to eat cookies (or french fries). Nothing at all to worry about as long as his other eating hasn't changed drastically. Do check into the link and threads on nutrition. A good diet for a bird will prevent a majority of problems that could otherwise be ran into in later life.
