Help ! A green parrot has been coming to our garden for 6 days now. We are in Bordeaux, France so it has obviously escaped. It won’t come to us. We have put a selection of fruit and parrot food on our windowsill and play it parrots singing, but it won’t even come for the food. The photo is very bad but it would be good if someone could identify it so that we can play it the right parrots singing. It has a red / orange beak. I’m wondering if it is an Indian ringneck. Any other suggestions would be welcome!

From the picture, it looks a little big for a ringneck, but it's hard to tell. Maybe an Alexandrine? They look similar since they're related and they're bigger than a ringneck. I thought it might be an Amazon but the tail looks a little long - but that may be due to the post.

Poor thing must be scared. How good of you to take care of it...even from a distance. It'll take some time before he/she feels comfortable with strangers.

Funny how my electrical engineering experience can "shed light" upon random puzzles.

That roadway lighting fixture, commonly referred to as a "cobra head" fixture, is about 14 inches wide.

Assuming this photo was shot at some distance, we can assume the parrot's length to be about 10-12 inches, beak to tail. Hopefully, that number can help identify it.

Thanks, I've only seen it from the distance but the tail does look a little blue just like the one in your photo. Night is falling now but I'm going to put food on all windowsills tomorrow in the hope it will take something.

Here is another bad photo to help judge the size. The other bird is a collar dove.

I looked under high mangnafacation at the first photo and then through my identification book. I do not think the beak is red. It also has too much yellow on the upper breast to be an Alex. but the tail is long per second photo. All I could come up with is what this bird is not. What area are you living? This may help to identify birdie.

You can't see it in the photo but we saw the beak and it is red/ orange.

We live in Bordeaux, France so this is not a native bird, has to be an escapee!

My money's on Alexandrine. They tail's too long for an Amazon and if Nofear's estimate of the size (I assume without the tail), it's about right. This is a male Alex; the females don't have the black neck ring.

I think that this bird is a female indian ringneck. It is small next to the dove, and they are both on the same power line. The bird also has a red-orange beak, and I see a very faint ring around the neck. There is one at my local rescue, and she looks just like that.

Here is a picture of one:

Definitely looks like a ringneck by description however, by profile it looks like a quaker. They do not have a red beak though.

Whichever it turns out to be, I hope for a happy ending. Catch her and show her some love!!!
