During warm weather I take my cages outside each week and hit them with my pressure washer. Now that Indiana is starting to get cooler weather I have disconnected the hose until spring. Iā€™m looking for a good way to clean the cages indoors over the next few months. Would one of those household steam cleaners work? What do you all think of them for cages? Opinions for and against would be appreciated. Also, links to ones that you like would be awesome.

I'm in Australia so I don't really have the problem of cooler weather and I don't have any steamers. But my cage cleaning regime is a daily wipe down of the bars using baby wet wipes daily, and then any food/poop that's stuck on really good I scrub off on the weekend using a 1:2 vinegar/hot water solution. I can do the scrubbing indoors or outdoors, and the solution dries really quickly and as the solution is bird-safe I don't bother with wiping over again unless I really need to.

This regime also means that I can extend the length of time between full cage cleans (where literally everything gets taken out and scrubbed), but I still try to do a full clean once a month.

I do use a steam cleaner - it works great for lots of things besides the cages too. I put the birds in another room while Iā€™m steam cleaning their cages. Put down a sheet of plastic and steam away. Itā€™s so hot that I donā€™t want the birds anywhere near when Iā€™m doing their cages. Works great though :). Well, I have used this unit on all four of my birds cages. I can verify that it works SO well! The crusty food and poop mess in the bottom trays is no match for this steamer. After steaming all I need to do is wipe with a sponge a few times rinsing between wipes. This should be standard equipment for any bird owner.

Awesome - Iā€™m glad it worked for you! I have 6 cages, so I really appreciate having this steamer :). I actually love using the floor mop attachments as well.
