Hi, I just bought one of these Bird Protectors for mites & lice prevention. It's made by Premium 8in1. It hangs on the birds cage. Has anyone used them and if so how did they work out with your birds?

I ask this because the active ingredient is Paradichlorobenzene, which says the fumes can cause liver and cell damage. So not sure I want to chance it.

From what I have read this product is not a good idea. I have had parrots in my life for well over 20 years and have never had mites or lice be an issue but I also live in the cold northern area of the states. Other members that live in the southern states should be along soon with input as far as the warmer climates are concerned.

Just my humble opinion but I would return it to the store and spend the money on some toys instead.

I have never heard of this but I don't like the look of it at all, I will be honest. When shopping for birdy products it is always worth remembering that a lot of countries aren't as knowlegable as a whole about parrot care and that it is allll about the money.

I can see how you would need to take more preventative measures against fleas and mites in an outdoor aviary situation (in which case the people I know swear by tea tree or eucalyptus oil - not a good idea in large quantities indoors) but not with a single companion bird. It is very uncommon.

If my girl did get any then I would simply take her to the vet for the appropriate treatment while being utterly bamboozled as to how she got them lol.

Hope that helped!
