I'm not joking. I wish I had taken a picture before washing it down the sink.

It was during water changing time as he was getting low in his gravity feeder,

And what do I see, a germinated little sprout thriving in there. It scared me at first, I thought it was a worm for a second. But after examining and remembering growing plants in grade school, there was no doubt in my mind.

My budgie is a gardener!

Welcome! That sprouted seed points to an inherent weakness and danger in using water bottles! To grow, it had to be in there for a couple days!
Not a reflection on your cleaning habits, they are notorious for being a cesspool of sickness! Also, we have a few members that have lost birds because the feeder jammed and it wasn’t noticed in time! A day or two can prove to be fatal in the right conditions! I recommend keeping an open source of water too and just deal with birdie soup! They love being little chefs!

Be very careful as this could have easily blocked the water bottle. Water bottles need to be checked for clogging every day.

Your post made me smile, very cute.

Sprouted seeds are fun...when they're expected. In a water bottle...not so much! lol

I use stainless steel bowls for water and food dishes only. They do fling seeds in their water sometimes or even poop in it, so I change and clean them frequently, once daily at least.
