I ate quinoa and veggies at parents House, cooked in non stick cookware. ( Not my home with my birds) I brought the left overs home. As it's parrot safe food, I was going to share. Then I freaked cuz I don't know if that's safe. So I didn't.

What do you guys think?????

Also I use Zicam nasal spray to hopefully help prevent flu. It has zinc, so... I have a bird that thinks it's funny to stick his beak in my nose. He laughs when he does! Is he at risk of investigation zinc? Lol or am I just a freak?!

Non-stick and zinc=bad for birds. If you don't re-heat the food much, it is probably okay FOR YOU, although I would not SHARE... I would avoid it in the future.

Do not allow your bird to ingest Zicam.

Thanks Noodles. I don't allow him to. I try very hard not to have his beak in my nose! He is fast and sneaky, and thinks it's a great game..... sigh

Great questions, with great answers above...

I was not aware of Zicam nasal spray as a preventative. Always believed it was to be used the moment you became away of coming down with something.

Regarding Zinc products used in medical sprays and mists, when properly targeted there is no threat or danger for a Avian family members. Clearly, never spray such products at them, as what falls on their feathers ends up in them.

FYI: Misted Zinc products for colds and the like, contains micro amounts of Zinc and would require extensive exposure over very long periods of time to become a heavy metal problem. Much better to never have Birds in the same room when you spray as the other chemicals in the mix could be more of a problem.

You can get zinc supplements in pill form.
