I have a young princess parrot brought home on Sunday. She was always fluffed up and asleep, so I took her to an experienced avian vet a few days ago. She was having breathing issues earlier that day. She said that she has an arrhythmia and that she either has a respiratory infection or a heart condition. Earlier today I noticed she was missing some feathers on her head that were fine yesterday. My mum did her medication last night so she might have accidentally hurt herself, but Iā€™m really scared that it could be pbfd. She came in contact with lots of my other birds the day I got her (I tried to quarantine her but my mum didnā€™t understand and thought it was ok to introduce her to the other birds when I wasnā€™t around.) I walked into the room to see her flapping her wings on the cage of my other princess parrot. She came in contact with all my birds except my budgies and Iā€™m scared that they might catch what she has. Do you think itā€™s pbfd? What should I do? Is it just a coincidence? My mum said that when she was medicating her she might have got her feathers stuck in her zipper. She acts fine other than being a bit sleepy, and has a great appetite. She only had trouble breathing after she was startled. We tested her for chlamydia and the test came back negative. How can I make sure the other birds are ok? Can any experts tell me if they think itā€™s pbfd? The avian vet didnā€™t have any concerns of it being that, but I canā€™t help but worry. I donā€™t know what Iā€™d do if I lost my princess parrots, my conure, my budgies and my eclectus.

What type of meds is your princess parrot on? My cockatiel Fang has a chronic heart arrhythmia so he is on Pimobendan and will be for the rest of his life. Heā€™s not crazy about taking his meds and unfortunately I do sometimes manage to knock a feather or two out if heā€™s being particularly stubborn.

If you still have concerns about your birdā€™s health you can of course have a blood test done for PBFD. Since you have a number of other birds itā€™s worth doing to ensure everyoneā€™s well-being.
