I belong to two or three on facebook. When my wife thrust being a parront on me I asked elsewhere for advice and was steered to this forum, which has been wonderfully supportive.

I often refer people to this forum, especially if they're just starting with birds.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Thanks so much, appreciate the referrals! FB is superb for fast paced, rapidly changing topics and discussions. Nothing like a forum for deeper interactions and camaraderie!!

once time an expert on fb said "some parrots (conures, caiques, lorikeets) must have a tent/nest box to sleep" and then I sent a link to this forum and he said "it's just a forum"

This depends on the country - here in Europe people disagree in many things with Americans...

In the past I was looking old threads and saw a suggestion to create ParrotForums website on Facebook. Then this idea was rejected. I remember the moment when the forum didn't work about 24 h - in these cases on fb could be the information (I think I wasn't the only one who was thinking if it was only to me or global). I've seen some forums have fb website.

Personally, I avoid Facebook as it has serious privacy issues and have little to no oversight. This seems to be a drawing card to a very different group of individuals that find Forums too restrictive for their style of interaction.

Facebook GROUPS can be heavily moderated and controlled. Even as far post approval for every post. I helped admin a large FB group for a while.

There are several other parrot forums on the web. Real forums, not FB pages. I even belong to one of them. I have'nt logged onto that one in months and months. It just does not feel right, more of a brag site or awarding goofy levels of participation, I dont know. And they definately do not give new members or any members for that matter the real deal on care of parrots. This board, this one here, is all about the birds. If we think someone is going down the wrong track or has incorrect info, this board will be the first to tell you so. If your asking about adding parrot #7 to you flock, we will be the ones to say, Really? Do you truely have the birds best interests here? THe board will offer sympathy, advice, joy, caution, information to anyone who asks. No parrot snobbery ( except us AMazons). And its really amazing to me, with the truely international flavor of our membership that there minimal if any problems.
