Question about keeping parrots

Hi,

I'm new here.
I am considering adopting a cocktail and senegal from someone who does not have time to care for them.

The only point is, the windows and doors in my house are always open.
Their owner says as long as you give them enough time to let them adjust to your house after a while it should be fine.

Can anyone confirm this? Their wings are not clipped nor would I want to clip them.

An update... It would only be the Senegal. The cockatiel is going to a home with more cockatiels.
She says Senegal's don't like to fly much... She's not worried about him flying away.
I am however so would like advice from experienced parrot keepers

Parrots that have been members of a home for a very long time can as a result of an error on the Human or Parrots side fly out a window or door. It happens far too often. Sounds like the individual that is getting rid of the Parrot is willing to say anything to have them gone.

If you have a Parrot, your home will need to be upgraded to having screens on the windows and doors...

You cannot have a parrot and leave windows and doors open (even if they don't fly much). All it would take was one moment of exploration or fear and bam- bird is lost. Ceiling fans are another major risk when turned on.
There is A TON to consider other than these factors...

Are you aware of the dangers of teflon/ptfe/pfoa/pfcs and the fact that these can kill birds on separate floors when heated (they hide in lots and lots of things, like pots, pans, space heaters, air fryers, drip trays, toasters, griddles, george forman grills, panini (sp?) makers, popcorn poppers, toaster ovens, curling irons, straighteners, blow dryers etc etc etc.
You cannot use standard cleaners around a bird either....so you will need to alter your cooking and cleaning habits significantly.
Fumes of any kind (even things like perfume that smell good to us) are toxic for birds. Air fresheners, candles, vaping, cigarettes, burning food, incense, glad plug-ins, fabreeze, aerosols etc are all very dangerous as well due to their extremely sensitive and efficient respiratory systems.
They need a diet consisting of more than just seeds...so you will have to do lots of fresh veg etc daily, along with pellets (although you never want to change a bird's diet abruptly or they can starve, so you would need to wean him onto better food if his current diet is bad).
They need a sleep schedule of AT LEAST 10 hours a night...
They can have ups and downs...are you prepared for potential biting and screaming issues?
If you have never had a parrot, it's easy to make major behavioral mistakes because they are so much more complicated than dogs or cats and they move in slow motion.
RESEARCH (and not on any websites that contain "pet" in the name, because these are almost always super general and written by people who have never owned parrots or are trying to sell them lol)

A parrot is a huge, life-long commitment (life-long for many anyway- depends on the type as far as life-span).
They require a ton of time and money and patience. If you can't imagine having a kid right now, I would seriously think hard about this because (while you can't stick a kid in a cage) parrots need to be a part of the family and they will test your patience like crazy.

It is simply not possible to keep a flighted bird in a home with open windows/doors and have expectation of them remaining. You would have to keep the wings severely clipped, and even then a curious bird might simply walk outside and get carried away by burst of wind.

Yes- because a clipped bird CAN still fly with the right wind, space and altitude.

Thank you for your answers, it's actually what I expected.

We were planning on buildling him a big outdoors cage, since we live in a warm country.
However there is just so much to consider when it comes to parrots and I cannot find the right type of metal.

I have been doing a lot of research, although I do not have experience with birds I am a huge animal lover and if I adopt I want to give them the best life possible otherwise I will not adopt him.

With the option of building him a large cage out of the window....

Do you feel a cage of W94.5 xL76xH180 CM is acceptable for a senegal parrot?

I have been doing a ton of research and am ware of the issues that Noodles123 is describing.

How many hours a day do you generally take your parrots out of their cage?

The current owner is keeping him in a small cage, about W50xL60xH70 CM and currently taking him out only 1 hr a day.

If he would have a cage W94.5 xL76xH180 CM and we take him out about 2-3 hours daily do you guys think he will be happy?

And yes then I would get screens on the doors and windows.
