Dee (Dedede)
Hi! My Budgie (Dee) always wants out of his cage, whenever he's in it he wants out. While I do appreciate him wanting to spend time with me I cant watch him 24/7 (I let him around my room for 2-6 hours a day due to online) and I need a break sometimes, one that doesn't include him trying to escape his cage. I have plenty of toys in the cage but he doesn't touch them. Im not sure what i should do to make him more cage bound. And yes I see the irony in this. :whiteblue:

Umbrella Cockatoo- 15? years old..I think?
It helps if you get him on a routine, but also model playing with toys while you guys are having fun, so that he knows he should be excited about them-- don't put your mouth on them but try showing him when you introduce new ones-- it should happen gradually because otherwise it's like a scary home-intruder that you just plopped in the middle of their cage.

You should also use key words/phrases to help them anticipate the amount of time you will be gone. For me, "going to work" is what I say whenever I will be gone for more than 4 hours...say, 5-9 hours.....I say going to the store if I will be gone from 1-3 hours. I also have my bird station trained and she has a bunch of places to hang out, although the only true "break" I get (when home) is bedtime ha.
