Seed catchers and poop

I have some questions about keeping poop off your floors!

When I bought Ozzys cage in October I didnt think I would need a metal seed catcher around it.. now I am regretting my decision. He likes to hang out on top and on the sides of his cage and makes sure to poop off the edge. This is nice because poop doesnt get in his bowls or on his stuff in his cage, but I have to keep a plastic shower curtain under his cage to catch the poops so they dont land on my carpet. He has also recently decided to start throwing food out of his cage and it ends up on the floor. Do those of you with the metal seed catchers attached to your cage find them helpful in catching seeds? Does your bird poop off the edge? If so how do you handle it? If seed catchers really help keeping mess in control I will purchase a new cage but before I make the 300 dollar purchase I want to make sure htey are worth it!!

I have one of those mesh "seed skirts" (I think that's what they're called), but it's for a smaller cage. I see them at Petsmart, for about $5 I think, and I was thinking about buying a couple and sewing them together for my big cage. It has hanging plastic feed bowls, so I was just going to put it around the cage where the bowls were so they would bounce back into the cage. Don't know if it's a good idea because it might get chewed, but I haven't done it yet and I was going to ask you guys for your opinions.

The seed catchers that come with the cages do catch the bulk of the stuff but not all.

my guy can projectile poop from inside the cage straight across the room!...when he is out of the cage i use a small blue tarp folded in half, with newspaper, on the carpet to protect it...he seems to always be on his door when he poops, so it lands right where it should...when he is in his cage i fold the tarp again (1/4) and leave it on the floor just in case

Oh my what a bird!!

I had seed catchers on all of my cages and I loved them. But, as I started moving the cages from one area to another, the seed catchers would always catch on something. I took them off and my weekly cleaning of the cages was reduced by half the time. I do spot cleaning regularly for the poop that lands on the floor and I sweep daily anyway. Oh and I took out my carpet (lol) it makes cleaning so much easier. I agree with the tarp idea if you are trying to protect carpets.

I have them on all my cages great job cause they always poop on side of their cages and it catches it a treat and the seed be lost without them to be honest seed just drops dwn to the bottom tray
