6 mos old male Alexandrine parrot named Albert. :)
ok, 4th day with new Alexandrine parrot.
1. he has slept a good 10-12 hours at night. however, when in his cage he dozes on and off. NORMAL? or is he bored. i take him out often, but with other animals, i must give him certain hours to come out.
2. also, after having him only a few days, he is definitely already "my baby". lol i'm his "person" so far b/c i stay at home.
my second question is that i am leaving for a couple of days and worried about being gone this soon after bringing him home. Hubby works, but will be here from 6pm until the next morning. will this freak him out? :(

Its normal for them to nap.

Leave kids tv show for him to watch during the day when no one is around. At least ask a friend or your hubby to talk to him in your absence. He will be fine!

Thanks again sweetie.
I have heard that if it's a dim room that they will sleep more as well. Should I turn on some more lights to get him to quit being a lazy bones? ha!

Birds need to take naps just like a baby, best news babies grow up, our birds don't.
Leaving a radio on, is wonderful entertainment for them, make sure you change the channels daily. Many birds are left alone, for hours, they are happy and content. A variety of toys is a must, and remember to rotate them at least every month.
Albert will automatically think he has new toys.
Make a recording, you talking to the bird, saying things he is familiar with, and let your hubby play it for Albert when returning home. In that way he will assume you are nearby AND he will be learning at the same time.

Do you have a window in the room where it wouldn't be so dim? Like ant mentioned, lots of toys is essential so he wouldn't be bored out of his mind....

I swear the previous owner let my JoJo watch some kids show called ne haw? He says some words in chinese. It surprised me!!! Then he go weeeeeeeeeeeeee....lol
