Parrot friendly roach killer!

I am moving next week and my new place has a few residents I would like to get rid of. I live in Florida so i know roaches are something I will have to learn to deal with but there are too many right now. Does anyone know any good methods to kill these suckers?

I have a week before I have to bring Ozzy there so if someone knows some bombs that work well I will have time to bomb and then air out apartment. I have heard borax poweder works and that its animal friendly but has anyone used this before? Im worried about the powder getting into the air and being breathed in.

personally i like the idea of traps

as then the poison and roach is kept in a hidden area

and ewww cockroaches are so hard to get rid off, main thing is do everything possible not to attract them, so keep food waste out of the house/flat when ever possible, you might still get the odd foraging roach, but they'll move on if there is nothing to be had from a wasted journey

if you see one, DO NOT STEP ON IT, as if its female, she will deposit eggs onto the soles of your shoes, best to catch it in a bag and squish

all external pipes that enter your building, try sealing off with expanding foam or similar

Buy roach motels, don't keep food in the house, try eating out as much as possible. Don't keep paper boxes in the house nor brown bags. They can feed off the glue. IF you can wait at least a month before you bring your bird over it would be great. Apartment supposed to do pest control service for ya!!!! They have the gel baits they can give the roaches. IF you have it, most likely your neighbor have them too, it can travel to your place just as easy. So it's best to have the apartment complex to do all the work. IF you meet up with the pest control people, you can tell them your dilemma with your pet bird. They can use safe stuffs around.

Also clean out all your cabinets, table top and floor with bleach water!!!!

Go to a Co-op or farm center and get a couple of pounds of tobacco dust.

put it around the outside of your place and make little sachets for cabinets and such to put around inside.
It works real well and is all natural.

Tenting the whole building is a Florida standard. But, you do not have the time for that and since it is a rental, that a landlord thing.

As a renter with birds, roach motels is pretty must your only choice.

The comments from others regarding cleaning is a reality.

Keep dry bird foods in the freezer.

They said as long as its not where the birds can eat it its perfectly safe.

I know this is beating an old thread again. :54: I was doing a search here on roaches and saw a few threads. I'm in a tropical and humid climate. Except I don't live in an apartment, but a house I'm renting. Few apartments I did live in surprisingly didn't have roaches. The houses I've rented...the few of them without central A/C are the worst and for critters.
The people who rented before were a mess. There's a lot of those German roaches. They've started to get on his cage. I'm going to get more roach motels and place them near. I've used boric acid before and on his tray at the bottom but I feel the motels are more safer because if they step on the boric acid powder they can trail that around the cage.

When you live in Florida, you have fewer options.

First, check your Rental Agreement for who is responsible and then proceed.

Based on it being your responsibility and that you're in Florida, tenting is your best option! Its faster and far more effective, which is very important. Yes, you will have to move out for several days. From that base, maintaining a monthly Bird Friendly Treatment will keep them at bay.

Its all apart of living in the Sun Shine State!

This product > Orange Guard Organic Repellent, Bug Repellent | Monterey Bay, CA is available at select retailers across the US, many places in FL if you look at the website under locations.

It claims to kill roaches. I have used it on house flies and ants, and it works as instantly as a poison does, yet it is non-toxic to pets including birds! Others here have used it too, and that's how I found out about it. It is just orange oil, from orange peel... it can be used around birds and cages. Wipe up residue, it is a bit oily which is the only drawback. It smells pleasant and "orangey" but not overwhelming and strong. Birds are safe - it is not a poison. More pest control companies are starting to use it professionally too, since it is non-toxic and still very effective.

Yeah, living in Florida and having this issue is a given, that's for sure. Instead of sprinkling some on his tray at the bottom, I'm making a paste to put on the holes outside his cage and underneath. I'm getting more roach baits. I got rid of them from another house I lived in, and then went to an apartment. Boric acid did the trick and roaches no more.

Tenting would be the best solution. Landlord can pay for that.

Moving out and finding another place is the solution. :grey:

I'm going to make sure some rooms don't have carpet either. That's a bird no-no.

Cleaning is indeed just the reality. I'll have to increase it.
