Is Tea Safe For Parrots?

its hard to drink a cuppa in the house with out nut trying to butt her beak in!:32: she fell into one of my un attended mugs of tea :11: (much to my son's delight!!:D) luckily, was just dregs at the bottom. i wasn't sure if i wanted to laugh or save her, as all that was sticking out of the mug was her tail feathers, and feet!!! i think she was busy slurping up the dregs to be frightened!!

told son off for not moving mug, to which he replied, she had spent ages sneaking up to it, not looking interested etc till she finally took the plunge lol

so thought i'd look up to see whats safe, and loved some of the comments in this link

Our female tiel, Chiquita...she goes NUTS for plain ole Green Tea...you can actually hear her GULP it as she tries to down the whole mug!

I limit her of course, but we sure crack up to watch her "antic's" around my tea.

Hahahahaha!

Oh honey badger!!! That made me laugh reading that!!! My Kayak is like that with anything I'm eating that she's not allowed to have. If I'm eating something she could have a nibble of she acts like she could care less. If it's something that she's really not allowed to have she's all over it like you said, a honey badger on a hive of bees. haha!

Puck feels quite entitled to whatever is on my plate or in my cup. I give him his own cups and plates, which helps. The other day my mom's roommate had a bowl of oatmeal, and he INSISTED on having some! Now he's trying to eat my wrap. LOL.

I think tea is probably okay for birds. If you're worried about the caffeine, you could just put some fruit (frozen fruit works fine) in hot water and let it steep. Tah-dah! Fruit tea without any weird stuff!

I would be worried about the caffeine in normal tea and would follow Remy's advice.

I know, I'm trying to teach Merlin HOT. I know w/a child sometimes a little burn will get your point across. But w/a small bird, a little burn could be dangerous. What to do??? I have a electric flat top stove & it makes me a nervous wreck. He's always up when the stove is on, but it stays hot for a long time after it is turned off.
