Rio (Yellow sided conure) sadly no longer with us
I just wanted to upload the pictures and videos I took of my little baby Rio before he died to share with all of you from his first night home up until his final day.

His final night, enjoying a long snuggle before he went to bed for the last time. I'd already made an appointment to see the vet but he just didn't have it in him.

See you over the rainbow bridge someday little baby

I misjudged you when you first came on here. Looking at these pics and the comments and the love you showed Rio, I really feel like jerk. He spent his last nite with his daddy.

I still feel like I should have done something but have no idea what else I could do.

It's been a rough time since he went but I know now I'm more prepared for any future birds I have

Oddly enough , Cornell just sent the thank you letter from when I made the donation in Rio's name. Litterally just opened it. I'll send you a copy if you like.

What a well loved little guy he was. His time with you was obviously happy and treasured for you both. I'm terribly sorry for your loss and empathize totally as I just lost my sweet Jasper about 4 months ago and it will forever hurt. I hope you find a new buddy soon, whoever it is will be lucky to find you.

Rio was well loved! It's great seeing all these candid shots of him. I love the video of him staying up playing with his hanging toys.

What a lovely and touching tribute.

Rio was clearly loved and well cared for.

I know how you feel about wishing you could do more- and how helpless it makes you feel.

I lost my Peaches back in December of 2015. She was a cockatiel and just three months shy of her 21st birthday when she passed.

I knew she was frail, having difficulty gripping (old age) and she began to have difficulty with her crop (swollen). She was eating and drinking fine and other than signs of old age, was her old self so I decided not to risk a vet visit. The avian vet is nearly an hour away and Peaches NEVER did well at the vet. She'd pant and struggle with breathing (stress) and on numerous occasions she regurgitated (not in the good bird way) and also bit her tongue. She hated the vet.

I wonder if I had taken her to the vet if she'd have lived longer. But she'd just had a check-up six months prior and was fine (other than old age). I didn't think she could take another vet trip and since there wasn't an 'urgent' need, I decided not too. But now, I am still racked with guilt saying to myself I should have done more.

Thankfully, I still have Skittles and he's only 7.

Wow that's a hell of a coincidence!

Thanks so much Wrench for doing that. It actually really helps knowing that other birds will get some help

It means a lot to me, make sure to give Salty an extra treat from me!

Damn that sucks. So sorry for your loss. I remember my childhood dog getting to old age 2 years ago and having to be put down due to the pain he was in. It's horrible when they get to that point where they're just at the end of their life.

Good to know you've got Skittles to keep you busy!

I'm a bit late, I'm just new to this forum. I'm sorry about the loss of your Rio. What a beautiful bird. I know how you feel. I just lost my 18 year old lovebird on March 31st.

I think you are wonderful, to have loved so deeply and completely.
When your heart finally heals (and you're too genuine to rush it), you'll make another bird a very, very lucky fid.
