Wish I lived closer.......
They need all the help they can get.
I pray the surviving birds are eventually placed in loving homes.

I know, I've seen alot of horrible things, but I don't know how I would react to seeing this in person. Sounded like the stuff nightmares are made of.:(

I have worked animal rescue before and had to deal with people like this... In these situations it is caused by a mental illness and really while person is in part to blame you have to blame their family for not getting them the medical help they need.

It is sad that things like this go on BUT you can`t think or be completely negative about it. You have to think about how great it is that these birds are NOW receiving the much needed TLC they deserve (otherwise you will go mental. LOL)

It is pretty bad though that these people are left alone like this most of the time because the people who `love them` aren`t willing to or lack the funds to help the person. there is normally an underlying cause of the hoarding that could have been delt with before it happened but people don`t reach out properly to those that need it in its early stages.

Yes it is easy to be mad at the hoarders BUT really they need us to sympathize for them and HELP them. Without the help they will just keep doing it.

IMO we need some kind of national funding to help these people so that it is easier to access for them do hoarding doesn`t begin or at least get to the extent like this.

a good example is of animal hoarding its causes and cures is the TV show hoarders special. I talked to people who worked that animal rescue (star`s rat rescue) there was almost 3,000 rats living in his house! it all started with 3 rats that were all supposed to be female, one was male one got loose and he couldn`t give them up because they were his babies, he realized it got bad and called out for help. WHY did he start hoarding the rats = He found his wife dead and was trying to fill that void in his life. Something that could have been solved in the past with counseling, BUT he didn`t have access to it and it put him into a depression.

You can look up the episode and watch it it is really an eye opener for those who don`t understand it(hoarding animals) and is also a good educational work for yourself as to why in these situations getting mad about things just doesn`t make sense. I made my entire family watch it when it came out.

:( Update, this is a link to pictures, I'll warn you they are horrible. Very graphic, I'm just sick that this happens. Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket

However the shelter is handling this, it is a real emergency. I don;t know why a shelter would turn down help, a cage, toys, etc. I understand the people thing, if they don't know you. They wouldn't want the birds going to anyone they didnt know. If a shelter opens near here, I plan on getting involved b4 an emergency, so I would be available to help if needed. But to turn down a cage, it just doesn't make sense.

I look @ the photos & I remember at least 2 members begging for a B&G in the same area. What kind of world do we live in?

I too have seen massive hording, not of birds but with dogs and cats, over half had to be put down they were that bad. most of these birds look semi healthy underweight but alright. Thats where I met lary though (umbrella Too) I wanted him to be adopted by the girl who he loved but she couldent, they made it impossable for the people who took care of the animals to adopt them (my old place of work was ... strange) I wish I could help, but theres not much I can do from alaska.

well I heard this am from a friend that the guy will not reliquinsh the birds now so miami valley animal control will have to get a seizure warrant because according to the law in Ohio , animals are considered property and you cannot just go and take someones property . So now they are stuck and they have to wait to get a warrant to in and seize the birds .So that is where this thing is now .

okay heard on the news the elderly man is very upset and he stated that the rescue league stole his birds and he is going to file charges if they are not returned to him . You know i would not be surprised if the judge found in his favor . That would be crazy but I have seen crazier things go on . I just hope that everyone including the birds come out okay . They did have a vet on the tv saying that if the other birds dont get out of there , they're dead .

With the horrific acts people commit upon other humans, I am sad to say I am hardly surprised by stories like this anymore.

I suppose this is simply one of those things we here will NEVER be able to truly comprehend.

With the amount of time we all take to make sure our birds are happy and healthy it is impossible to grasp a concept such as this.

I am sure I am just "preaching to the choir" here but I am hopeful that sane heads will prevail and they will be able to get the balance of the surviving birds to safe homes.

I am unclear on animal cruelty laws in Ohio, but I would think they could confiscate these birds solely based upon the number of dead birds in the photos...not to mention the unhealthy conditions this man created for himself.

if the man clamed the birds are stolen, then they are already out of the building, and those who are strong enough, are recovering, hopefully that means they are ALL ok.

Only alaska has lax laws on the humain treatment of animals. From the amount of dead birds found, dont worry the man will be faced with charges, maybe not for all the live animals, but he will be charged for all the dead ones they found, and if we are lucky, he may never beable to own another bird again. Until the trial is over, the birds wont go back to him, (at least thats how it worked while I worked in the shelter here. )

i am the mom of three parrots:
Dorothy- African grey (cag)
Bowie- blue and gold macaw
Nellie- hyacinth macaw
Reggie- hyacinth macaw
Marnie- white bellied caique
This is a very, very sad and frustrating situation. I live in the Dayton Ohio area and this has been on the news quite a bit (at first). I think if it were dogs/cats they would be out of there already. The rescue that I adopted Kiwi from has been trying to get the judge to do something in favor of these birds. Unfortunatly the county that they are in is not the easiest to deal with. Yes, first the man allowed people in to get the birds most in need, now he is saying that they stole them. It is my understanding that he wants money for the remaining birds. He doesn't just want to give them up. It is so sad. I am also on a linnie forum and I know there is an online store that is offering free shipping to anyone sending food/supplies to help this cause.

I have one thing to say to them.. TWO WEEKS? ARE YOU FREAKING OUT OF YOUR MINDS!???? Is it NOT OBVIOUS enough that they are in horrible danger? This man is deeply set in his ways. He will change NOTHING.

This makes me extremely upset at the legal system! If something is wrong, DO something about it!!! If given 2 weeks to make something right, most people WILL NOT change what they have been doing for YEARS! Property shmoperty....... heartless.

Will donate tomorrow. Considering fostering..
