I saw on Reddit that Foster Parrots bird sanctuary in Rhode Island had a fire. It seems appropriate to mention it here. It was a major fire.

Quite understandably, there website now has a banner at the top of all its pages mentioning a donation request, so the direct link is disallowed on this forum.

This fire was a very sad occurrence. Yet, it seems like an occurrence of which parrot lovers such as members of this forum might wish to be aware. There was major damage to part of their facility. Sadly there were many birds which did not survive. However the fire department stopped the fire so it only damaged part but not all of the sanctuary, and according to their website, their suviving birds are safe and stable.

In order to avoid linking to webpage asking for donations, instead here is a link to a news report about the fire at Foster Parrots in Rhode Island. :

A little more info gleaned from reddit:

"Part of one building was destroyed, but there were other buildings that were untouched."

"Firefighters were on the scene before staff even knew there was a fire, due to fire boxes installed a few years ago. The fire was contained to the north section of the facility. The building was 40 feet by 1000 feet, and they lost about 1/4 of the building. 300 parrots survived, about 100 died of smoke inhalation. Two birds escaped the north end, the rest are gone."

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Horrific tragedy, had a nightmare last night after reading initial link. The caregivers must be numb with grief. :(
