Re: Ivy's Night of Horrible Freedom!

I'm sorry that my views are different than many. I've made the decision that this forum is not a good fit for me. I love talking about parrots but it was like a huge wake up call for me today when...

Re: Ivy's Night of Horrible Freedom!

Okay, I edited my post that used the word "cruel" to describe a clip that is so short it causes a bird to fall like a rock when spooked, and replaced it with "dangerous".

Re: Molting = weak immune system

I hope she improves rapidly! Please share the exact strain of bacteria when you can. Also, how did the non-avian vet identify the bacteria so accurately in such a short time?

Re: Age to get a bird

I cannot figure out what this means. :20:

Another place to look for older birds is with breeders. Many times they take back birds they've sold when the situation doesn't work out, for whatever...

Re: Ivy's Night of Horrible Freedom!

Please don't consider our comments as criticism of your care for her.

This forum post will come up on searches forever. It is correct, IMO, to use your experience to discuss the realities of...

Re: Water bottle or bowl?

I put the bottle over the bowl. Sully would die if he couldn't make soup. Rose would die if she couldn't bathe in a water dish. They all love to use the bottle too. So, we have both.

Re: Help!!! My bird's foot was bitten...

Great news. I've had many foot bites among my flock, especially because I keep multiple female Eclectus who will 'take the hit' in order to get in some other bird's space and other than maybe a day...

Re: Ivy's Night of Horrible Freedom!

I am so glad you got her back.

I lost a clipped bird outside and never did recover her. Clipping does NOT guarantee they cannot fly unless you clip them so severely they cannot catch themselves...

Re: Help!!! My bird's foot was bitten...

If the wound is still bleeding you should put pressure on it. Use a clean gauze pad over the wound then apply pressure. You can gently clean the wound with betadine or hydrogen peroxide once you...

Re: Newspaper Shortage

One more idea is getting the leftover copies of a local "shopper" or "trading post" or whatever the free, local handout is. I learned that they recycle the overages they print but first they bundle...

Re: 9 week old female weaning and flying?

She is adorable!!! Nothing quite as cute and sweet as a little Eclectus girl, IMO. My guess is she was about 6 weeks old in that picture.

Fledging is when they leave the nest and begin...

Re: eclectus male vs female

I'm very sorry that you lost your lovebird. I always warn people to NEVER allow little birds near big birds and Eclectus are much larger than lovebirds.

Re: our new baby Penny :-)

Is this a high pitched, very shrill noise, or more of a "caw" or "ack"?

Re: eclectus male vs female

Might as well get a male. The internet is clogged with stories on how awful female eclectus are -- and most are written by people who have never owned one.

I'm tired of trying to convince people...

Re: Beans and sprouts?

Yes you can cook them even though they sprouted. I assume they sprouted when you soaked them to soften them before cooking.

Some people intentionally sprout beans before cooking in order to...

Re: 9 week old female weaning and flying?

I doubt she is as young as you think. At 4 weeks her colored feathers would just barely be visible. Do you have pictures of her the day you acquired her?

It sounds to me like she is closer to...

Re: Orange-winged with deformed flight feathers

I'm curious about something. Do you think electrolosis might work on the individual feather follicles instead of surgery?

Re: Poopie Woes

I don't think loose substrate is a good idea. Too great a chance for mold, just as it could happen in a cage tray and why it is discouraged there.

You need to remove poop daily. Sweeping and...

Re: Free flight from aviary.

He is saying he imprinted the birds by pulling them from the nest and hand feeding them then he flew them when they were youngsters and came back to him (he was the food source after all).

I...

Re: Bringing my Adopted Eclectus Home

I would leave her in the cage until she shows you she wants out. At two, she will know how to express this.

Here are some of the things she might do when she is ready to come: sit on the perch...

I learned the same way as you that newspapers on the floor get rearranged when birds fly overhead.

My bird room floor is hardwood so I knew I wanted to cover it with something that would protect...

I'm not wondering.. I know it can be done. I want to know how more than anything.

Re: Free flight from aviary.

What exactly do you mean? Are you wondering if parrots will return to their aviary like homing pigeons return to their cote/loft?

Re: Queen Of Bavaria (golden conure)

Seriously? A stainless steel aviary? That would be extremely expensive consider the size aviary you need for that large a bird.
