That looks like a mojo molt. My ekki has gone through several mojo molts, which is a neck ring of molted feathers. He looked scraggly for a few months before the new feathers grew in.

I once adopted a Shiba awhile ago. He was such a loyal sweet guy. I definitely hold a soft spot for them.

Fresh is best. Birds don't eat pellets in the wild. It's a human creation to bring ease of feeding for bird owners. I believe pellets should should be made available, but not the predominant food...
