Re: More pictures of baby!

The belly looks very "lemony". lol.

You could go with "Mel" or "Lolly" or "Lo-Pop". lol.

If its a she, you could go with "Melody" if she likes to sing/chirp and has a particular behavioral...

Re: More pictures of baby!

I have always found naming my fids to be a tough chore, but I do have a method that is so far the only effective one for me. I never name a fid before getting him/her.

I prefer to bring the new...

Happy 10th Hatch Day Skitty!

Today is Skittles 10th Hatch Day!

I woke him up early so he could have an extra long hatch day out with Daddy. It's hard to celebrate since he already has so many toys and gets plenty of treats...

Re: Experienced Owners, Who Would You Adopt?

Yes, doing your research is EXTREMELY important.

When I first saw Skittles I was instantly smitten, but mostly because of how he responded to my presence vs others. It was like he 'chose me'....

Skittles reaches a milestone!

So tomorrow, March 29th, will be Skittles tenth hatch day. I cannot believe he's going to be TEN!!!

In two weeks, he and I will have been a family for nine years. Oh, where does the time go! It...

Re: Experienced Owners, Who Would You Adopt?

Taking in a rehome should never be discouraged. But rather what should be encouraged is education. Knowing the background of a potential rehome as well as knowing about the species and its natural as...

Re: Keeping things normal amid SIP orders

I think I just have an overly-opinionated sunnie. As lovey-dovey and affectionate as he is, he's also incredibly bossy and very set in his ways. When something is or isn't done that is not the normal...

Keeping things normal amid SIP orders

So I thought we could all help each other out with ideas for how to keep a sense of 'normalcy' with our fids during 'shelter in place' or 'stay at home' orders.

My reasoning for this is simple....

Re: Should I be worried about the coronavirus because of my GCC?

Hey, don't feel bad. If I had to choose between Skittles living or every other person in this building guess who I'd choose? The world already has too many people. Not enough birds.

Re: My Sun Conure loves juicing

Thats good, but we are referring to the 'natural sugar' (fructose) that is already in the fruits/veggies. That cannot be removed through juicing.

Re: My Sun Conure loves juicing

Yes, thats truit. Its the sugar. So if you stick to fruits/veggies low in sugar (or balance them out) then you should be fine. With all the flying Skittles does, I just don't think I should worry...

This is what happens when you remove happy huts

So, this is my life now.

I'm trying to play on my tablet and relax, and he does this- every day. He used to just use my chest hair for burrowing and my facial hair for preening. Now, he's...

Re: My Sun Conure loves juicing

This issues divides me and my vet. She says not to let him have more than a thimble full of juice per day and to water the juice down by thirds (1/3 juice, 2/3 water).

Skittles doesn't get ANY...

Re: is there a way to make normal sun conure babies become darker

I'm not sure about darkness, but I DO know that one of the key factors in plumage color is diet. While Skittles has always had bright colors, they became more vibrant as his diet changed.

His...

Re: I have created a nightmare

It's literally like his favorite thing to do. He 'pushes' his head into my chest and 'digs' with one foot and rattles the other foot in the air. Almost looks like he's trying to do a headstand (and...

Re: Homemade perches?

My avian vet recommended I get branches from outside to make into perches and she told me which woods are safe but I forgot. lol. I live in the middle of downtown and I don't trust the tree branches....

I have created a nightmare

So, in two months Skittles will hit the big 1-0 and a few weeks later he and I will celebrate his 9th adoption day. You would think that by now, after all that time, I'd have learned my lesson. But...

Re: Literally everything is deadly?

Yeah, I certainly would never do anything that involved toxic chemicals or products with Skittles around.

My avian vet told me to use a heavily diluted bleach solution to sanitize his cement...

Re: Literally everything is deadly?

I have a friend who basically discounts any sort of dangers or warnings because she's become 'numb' to it. That's the problem with a lot of things in society. You scare people enough and sooner or...

Re: Literally everything is deadly?

You raise a very fine point and to some extent there IS literally nothing that is completely safe to any of us. But that doesn't mean we should throw everything away.

To me, its all about common...

Re: I think I brought home a velcro bird

Sounds rather similar to what I went through with getting Skittles. He 'chose' me and when I took him home, he took right to me. We bonded instantly.

If I can just offer some advice, particularly...

If you do try and resolve the matter with the vet and you are not satisfied with the results, social media can be a powerful tool. At the...

Re: Skit the zit

I'm glad that its not a major concern. My primary concern was the licking. I've read time and again about the dangers of saliva. Since birds don't have the means in their immune system to fight off...

First off, my apologies for my absence. I'm sure you all missed me terribly, but its okay. I am here now. LOL. I'm just messing with you all.

Seriously though, Skittles did something today that...

Re: Wing Twitching

This is totally normal behavior as others have mentioned. Skittles was doing this a LOT when I first got him. He only does it when he's resting, or sitting somewhere calmly/quietly. His breeder told...
