How do I find his favorite treat?

I'm not having luck training my new white winged parakeet. Not because he doesn't understand clicker training, but because he's not motivated. He'll half-heartedly train for millet, but he's just not...

Re: Constantly molting?

That's what I assumed too. I wonder if it's just normal molting, but he can't preen the feathers around his head... he doesn't seem to have this issue on his back, belly, under his wings, etc. He's...

Re: Recommended pellet brand...

Hagen Tropican is good, but it does have added sugar. I use a blend of Harrisons and TOP (Totally Organic Pellets.) Here's an ingredient comparison of the three:

Ground corn,...

Re: Best premixed cook able food

I've had a few Bird Street Bistro mixes that I liked, but I also have a mix of dried vegetables from Harmony House Foods - they're made for soup, and I have a whole ton of dried carrots, sweet...

Is my Brotogeris over eating?

I just brought home a sweet little White-winged parakeet (brotogeris) about four days ago. He is just over 4 months old.

He eats like crazy! He chows down on everything I offer him. Every day he's...

Re: Aviator harness?

I've been trying forever to get my conure comfortable with the Aviator, lol. He panics when his head goes through the neck loop. I've been target training with him for months just trying to coax him...

Re: Constantly molting?

He does allow me to preen them, since he gets so many on the back of his head and neck, I help him preen them frequently. This doesn't seem to happen on his back or chest, which is odd - only around...

Constantly molting?

I'm beginning to feel like my green cheek conure is just constantly molting. Not that he has any bald spots or he's missing any major feathers, but he ALWAYS has lots of pin feathers around his head,...

Re: Learning to fly......

I had this issue when my conure's flight feathers grew back in. He was scared to fly, because all his previous attempts resulted in him sinking like a rock. He would only fly when he was spooked,...

Re: wing clipping/bonding

Clipping doesn't necessarily facilitate bonding - honestly, when my conure was clipped as a baby, I think bonding was more stressful because he couldn't just fly away when he was uncomfortable, so...

Re: Toucans?

I don't have toucans myself, but I've also done some research out of curiosity because I LOVE aracaris and toucanets. However, I don't think I will ever have one for many reasons:

-The enclosure...

Thinking about getting a friend for my GCC. What species?

Hello all! I have a green cheek conure, Wheatley, and I've been thinking lately about a second bird - ideally, something that will be able to get along with Wheatley. I'd love for my GCC to have...

I can understand your thoughts, and I am glad that Ravennessa found him because she is obviously taking fantastic care of him. But yes, mistakes do happen, and it could happen to any of us. Conures...

Re: New here, need help! Found a conure!

For conures, seeds should not be a staple, because they're a little too fatty. Seeds and nuts can be mixed in with their diets, and also used as training treats.

Pellets should be their staple...

Re: step up?

No, it's very good that he walks away when he doesn't want to, otherwise you will have a bird that bites when he doesn't want to step up. Sometimes there are reasons the bird doesn't step up - they...

Aww, Ria, your rats are super cute! My plan would be to have the rats in a completely separate room, and to cover up the rat cage when the bird is out. I have mice, and I've never let Wheatley meet...

Re: To clip or not ?

As far as taking birds outside, even a clipped bird can fly away if the wind picks them up. I used to take my bird outside when he was clipped as a baby, but then one day, something spooked him, and...
