I'll be giving the cage a good clean tomorrow.. I know she had a traumatic day with the moving and the car rides.. So I wanted to set it up quickly so she would be able to settle in.. Her temperament...

Newbie pionus

Just rescued an abandoned pionus. I'm new to this breed. Not sure how old this one is. Was told could be between 5-10 years old. They believe it is female.
My first thought is this bird doesn't look...

things are going really well. we have had him out of the cage quite often the last couple days. he laughs in my ear. he nibbles and taste tests my chin and ears.
he is also in love with my father....

preening is a sign right?

morty has started to preen himself while sitting on my shoulder, knee or arm.
he was even nice enough to preen my arm hairs for me as well. i do believe this is a good sign he is getting comfy with...

yes i do believe he was treated really well. when i picked him up from them, they took the time to show me his routines and how he likes to bathe and introducing him to me. i could tell they were sad...

yep he flew around the room. landed on the couch beside me..and was sitting on my shoulder eatting treats.. his previous owner said he wasnt aggressive at all, him and his wife seemed ok with him....

we have only had him since thursday. i sit and talk to him beside his cage for 5-10 minutes at a time. about every half hour or so when i am home after work. the others in my family greet him and sit...

i got some treats. he seems to like them and i made some mini pasta he really liked that. i fed him through bars of his cage. not certain how long i should wait to try to handle him. he talks to me...
