Re: Friend ISO GW Macaw in TX

I follow JC Aviary based in Texas on Instagram and they have beautiful birds. Not sure if they have the parents on the premises or if they buy unweaned babies in bulk like other breeders do but...

Re: Potty Training

I potty-trained my Jenday Conure, but it ended up being another problem because he would ONLY go if he was on my finger. Which is a long time to hold it when I was gone at school 7-3 and then had...

Re: I.S.O. Bronze, Wing, Dusky, or Blue Headed Pionus.

Hi and welcome!

I found my bird on birdbreeders.com and it's a great resource if you don't mind your bird getting shipped or driving to them a ways.

Re: Help cat scratch!!!!

Oh no, your poor baby!

I hope he makes it through this... I have cats too, and would never risk them out alone together for this exact reason. You can never be too careful.

Please keep us...

Re: Iím new and I need help..

Why are you sleeping with your birds????

They should be put to bed in cages for their own safety. I don't know how many times I've read horror stories of people sleeping with their birds and...

Re: opinions on sprouts?

I believe with a quality seed mix, regular rinsing, sanitizing and drying properly, sprouts are great for our birds and I serve them to mine. They seem to really enjoy eating them.

Re: What kind of macaw is this????

Yes I second the above answer, this macaw is a hybrid. Catablu is probably the best bet, as it looks mostly blue and gold. Catalinas are more yellow and Harlequins are more orangey/red.

Re: Holidays in the US

Oh, what a fun trip! I'm in the Midwest so you probably wont' want to visit us as it gets pretty cold in November (it's snowing and about 10 degrees F today) but we have many members here from all...

Re: Getting a YSC baby soon! Need advice xD

Most hand-fed babies are taken from their parents at 2 weeks old and weaned, for this conure I'm thinking around 2-3 months is normal. When feeding multiple chicks from the same clutch I use the same...

Re: Opinions needed

Depending on where you live, you could find some branches outside and bake them (assuming they are a bird safe wood) and give it to her just in her cage. Or you could go to your local home...

Re: Moody Baby Conure?

Are you weighing her daily, is she gaining weight? Sometimes they get like this if they are extremely hungry, the parents aren't feeding them but they aren't eating on their own, either. Some just...

Re: Opinions needed

Yes, as you have assumed, giving any sort of nesting material to cockatoos can and does stimulate nesting behavior! It's best to keep these away from her from now on, especially between spring and...

We know EXACTLY what you are feeling, as many of us feel as though our birds are more like our children! I wish I could bring my birds to work, I sit up front with a lot of windows around me and...

Re: Update on my cockatiel

He is a cute one!!

Cockatiels can range anywhere between 70 - 110 grams when they wean, my Ember came to me at 64 grams at 3 months old so it took a bit of time to get some weight on him. He's...

Re: How could I be so dumb?! :(

Aw, poor baby!

I have two cats, it's all about taking precautions. Perhaps his cage would do well on a stand of its own, so as not on top of a dresser to be knocked over? Or perhaps a new, big...

Re: Apartment living with a caique

Understand that going from 12 years of routine at your parent's house where there was likely someone home a lot of the day, someone to interact with her and now going to a totally new place, with...

Re: New keeper - Parrotlets mating

It's perfectly okay for a bonded pair to mate, separating them could cause stress on both so you can just throw away or boil any eggs laid.

That being said, the smaller parrots can be...

Re: Getting a YSC baby soon! Need advice xD

As others have stated taking in an unweaned baby with no experience hand-feeding is extremely risky. It comes down to possibly killing the baby with your inexperience. We don't say this to be mean,...

Re: How many toys do you guys put in your parrots cage?

Yes as stated above it really does depend on the size of the cage. You want to give them enough room to stretch their wings, but also not bombard it with so many toys that they can't get around....

Re: Encouraging disabled bird to be more active

Could you bring him outside in a towel or sorts and let him sit on your lap to catch some of those rays? Maybe just a change in scenery and some vitamin D could help him become more active, at least...
