Re: A dumbed down version of a conure diet.

Your avian vet will probably suggest 50-60% pellets, 20-30% veggie, and 10-20% seed, but birds are pretty flexible. The reason that companion birds are recommended to have less seed is because...

Re: A Kermit Training Update

Ooof, it's been a hot second since I posted here. No reason, just life and what-not getting in the way. Kermit still gets lots of love and safflower seeds daily, but I lapsed entirely on her...

Re: Difficulty training GCC

Good on you for putting so much effort into getting Havoc into a better situation. It sounds like he's trying to live up to his namesake D:

In regards to biting, the phrase I thought that was key...

Re: Let's talk cage quality

@LaManuka: Oooofff, I can imagine the horror of a big chunk of page coating in your birdie's mouth. Thank you for the recommendation of the brand, featherlands looks like they offer quite a few...

Let's talk cage quality

I'm looking to upgrade Kermit's (my GCC's) cage. It's about 4 years old, purchased for $100 off amazon, an A&E flight cage, advertised as wrought iron, and originally purchased to contain a budgie. ...

Re: Does your conure ‘talk’?

Kermit is a better mimic that talker, but she says a few things :)
-"Hi Kermie"
-"Step Up"
-"Be Niiiiice!" (mostly a sharp, angry whistle... I translate)
-"Peeeee.... KA BOO!"
-"Baby?"/"Are you...

Re: Question on causes of yeast infection in parrots?

I'll research into sprouting again, though my lucky with plants is not so great. I'm on of those people that forgets to water plants. Birds are different, because I can't NOT think about my bird...

Re: Question on causes of yeast infection in parrots?

In regards to pellets I feed, I go with Roudybush and Goldenfeast mixed together. Neither are known as sugary pellets and seem pretty well-regarded. Roudybush is corn-based, Goldenfeast seems to go...

Re: Question on causes of yeast infection in parrots?

Laurasea; I'm also doubting vitamin deficiencies. I can't recall all the metrics my vet cited, but I know he ran a metabolic panel of some sort. Liver values, protein values, calcium off the top of...

Re: Question on causes of yeast infection in parrots?

Thank you Laura ! On it's own, it's not serious because all her other results are in good shape. It looks like yeast infections are only an issue when their immunity gets weakened. So hopefully I...

Question on causes of yeast infection in parrots?

So just got Kermit's results back from the vets for her yearly visit, and they look awesome!... sort of.

Her blood and metabolic panel came back very well. She has no sign of infection,...

Re: Still Biting Me, I am so sad.

I believe Ryu can love you too <3 I socialized Kermit around a lot of different people when she was young, which may be why she is less than a "one person" bird, yet nonetheless I think it shows...

Re: Parrot Intelligence Survey

I've done quite a bit of personal research with my green-cheek conure to understand how she thinks.

Kermit says about 6 or so words/phrases and countless mimics (some more intelligible than...

Re: A Kermit Training Update

I kept meaning to respond to this, but thank you so much for the support and belief in us !!

I think a lot of why I've put aside harness training right now has more to do with me than the bird. I...

Re: Flight Recall Training: It's going great!

Wow good job !!

A quick question for you, because I'm going through similar training with Kermit. I started by target training her & am now trying to get her to flutter about 20 cm to the next...

Re: How to discourage "frisky" behavior with toys?

Wow, thank you for the wealth of information. I also once lost a female budgie to egg-binding when I was young and naive and it's such an awful way to go that I'm very vigilant that it doesn't...

Re: How to discourage "frisky" behavior with toys?

Thanks all for your thoughts !

I'm not weirded out that my bird is masturbating on her toys... beats my hands anyways. I'm more concerned that this could encourage egg-laying. So I try to remove...

How to discourage "frisky" behavior with toys?

Hey all,

Spring is in the air and Kermit is loving a lot of her toys... literally. She's coming up on 3 years so she's already passed her initial puberty monster. But she's rubbing up on a lot of...

Re: A Kermit Training Update

Thank you Flboy !

Another training update: Kermit is an A+ superstar. We just started target training. I knew it would be a hard ask for her, because she's very reserved about flying. After only...

Re: Question for those with GCC's that talk...

It's really hard to say when Kermit's talking became distinct, but it seemed like around 6 months of age I could start picking up what her mumbles were. She was definantly making a lot of...

Re: Possible stress bars/black feathers?

He's pretty young. Most baby birds that I've seen seem to have some pretty rough plummage. Kermit's came like that, and I got her at only 10 weeks old. While ensuring he's getting the best nutrition...

You know you have a problem when...

You own one parrot, and somehow have 2 carrying cases, 2 cages, a playstand, 4 boxes of toys, and 1 cart all dedicated to said parrot.

With myself it's so easy to pitch things I no longer use....
