Unhappy help! i am having troubles with taming my budgies

so i have my budgies for a while now and it seems that every thing that i see in youtube or any other website doesnt seem to help me, i am getting really desperate and kind of sad and inpatient.
all i am trying to do is tame my budgies and my questions are:
1)how to tame them?
2)how long does it take?
3)what do you do when you get inpatient?

i would really appreciate the help.

sincerly,
an impatient bird owner

1) Read THIS thread

2) How long have you been trying to tame them? It can take several months for some birds or even longer.

3) Remember that they are a wild animal and you are trying to make them do something that is not natural. Trust a predator

Re: help! i am having troubles with taming my budgies

How old were the budgies when you got them and what is the training objective? We've been working with a young male for about 4 months and he will step up the majority of the time, but is difficult to get out of the cage. Once out, he does not stay on a finger very long. Just in the past few weeks have I been able to get him to say on a shoulder, but he will move to the back of the neck. We estimate this bird was ~4 month old when we got him due to the banding on his forehead had receded some from his cere, and now they are receded to the top of his head.

We do not spend enough time with this bird to get good results, in my opinion. This one is not my personal bird so he only gets about 10 mins handling per day, but he is usually with the family on an outside living room perch or in his cage.

It may also be more difficult if you have more than one budgie together - they may prefer to bond with each other.

Re: help! i am having troubles with taming my budgies

It took months to have progress for me. Only one will eat from my hand, and sometimes let me pick him up, the other one had nothing to do with me. But honestly I don't try, I let them fly free during the day, I love them so playful and cute. But for those people who did work and make progress, they will need more info to help you..

Re: help! i am having troubles with taming my budgies

(1) Change Your Expectations. "Tame" for little stuck-up budgies can look quite different than tame for, say, a friendly happy Sun Conure.

(2) Try waiting till they're asleep. Yes, this seriously. I work a later shift and most the little progress Ive made with mine was in the evening. It was past dark when coming home, they would wake up from me coming in, and basically be much more handle-able. They stepped-up at night way before any other time. (Even though, still only on THeir terms.) In the am they are much more active-and also more skittish.

(This doesn't work as well any more. Now my Conure gets my attention when I get home, and by the time she's back to sleep, the budgies are wide awake.). But still, I recommend you try a little working with them in evening time, or at other sleepy-time hours. It might help.

Re: help! i am having troubles with taming my budgies

Something I didn't see above, if you have multiple budgies, I have six for example, they are likely becoming their own little flock. My example for this, is all six of mine are "handleable" in the sense that all of them will step-up, all of them won't generally bite, they have started to go to bed upon request flying into their cage, they will sit on a hand for a few brief moments but always return to the flock.

As far as I'm concerned they are all absolutely tame, but they only tolerate me, I'm that bird at the back of the flock, they all have each other which lowers their need to depend on me for attention. All I'm really saying that if they have adapted to their more wild instinct, they have their flock and the bond may be stronger to the other bird(s), if they will sit on your finger for a few moments and not try to bite you, it may be as tame as they get.
