Preening & screaming

Lately Luna has been preening her back, then getting upset and making screaming noises. She keeps preening though. We've checked her back and we don't see anything on her back. She hasn't been plucking any feathers either. All of her dropped feathers have been completely in tact.

I'm unsure what to do or what could be the cause?

Re: Preening & screaming

Not too sure what may be causing this specifically with Luna. One of my previous cockatiels, Kang, used to squawk if she hit a pin feather while preening (and would go on preening and squawking anyhow) so that may be a factor. Then again some birds just do weird stuff for no particular reason! You’re a very attentive parront so you’ll pick up pretty fast if anything is really wrong.

Re: Preening & screaming

My Cheeky gets into fights with his foot and starts screaming at it.
I too am in the dark with this.

Re: Preening & screaming

My Penny, who is a plucker,
Does this. For her it's a way to relieve anxiety.
Is there any chance in the household? And stress going in between family members ..

Re: Preening & screaming

Thank you for the possible scenarios guys!
@LaManuka
I think it could be most likely it's a pin feather but she's going at it really hard. It's freaking us out a bit but nothing else is wrong with her. I'm gonna try and increase the amount of showers to see if it'll help if it is a pin.
@Texsize
Lol! Luna does this too! Cockatiels are certainly silly little guys.
@Laurasea
We have been a little stressed lately but not at each other. It's been happening before the current events that have caused us to be more stressed. I will keep this in mind though because I feel like it's not completely ruled out as a possibility.
