That look of “ I want to fly”

Sponsored Links
Not sure how to describe this but we’ve all seen it with our CAGs, they hunch down just a bit and start to lift and spread their wings as if they want to take flight. Perjo does this all the time now. She seems to fly well inside the house. Takes unscheduled flights 5-6 times a week and sometimes I’ll say fly to your cage and she’ll jump off my hand and fly to the cage. But when she hunches down on a perch and spreads her wings , while bopping her head up and down sometime Lol, I get the impression she wants to take flight and just isn’t quite courageous enough to jump.

Wondering if this is bc of confidence or not having a sure fire known landing spot in mind?

Who else Cag does this?

Bella does this inside her cage.
I think it can be a sign of excitement.

Enzo does this in her cage whilst shouting 'come on!', she wants to come out to fly, she either does this or lifts one foot up. She sometimes hunches down to fly when she is out......but she doesnt fly, instead she wants me to pick her up, she can be so lazy sometimes lol.

Re: That look of “ I want to fly”

It’s definitely a sign of excitement for Perjo, I associate it with her wanting to be a part of the action or be near me as well when she does this.

I’ve only owned one parrot and for only 3 years but my thought is domesticated parrots probably lack the confidence to just take flight at anytime more so than any undomesticated bird. Simply because they don’t have to fly well to survive, bc they have become our overlords. Lol.

Re: That look of “ I want to fly”

Actually, my conure does this! I feel like he wants to but needs a push! It takes motivation for him to take off like someone eating something in the kitchen or me walking out of the room and him chasing me or perhaps something scaring him. However, I agree with you that it does appear like sometimes he wants to but is hesitant.
