IRN - Zazu, Cockatiel - Walad
Hello!

Yesterday I’ve noticed that my baby Zazu (IRN) has some bald spots above his nostrils. Today the bald area appears to be larger than yesterday. At first I thought it’s because of him hanging on the cage bars a lot and kinda chewing on them (i upgraded him to a bigger cage, yet he still does this and doesn’t want to stay there if he knows i’m around).
But when I tried running my fingers through his little head to check for maybe some mites/lice, 5 of his small feathers just fell without me putting any pressure when checking (didn’t find any bugs on his skin). I can’t help but start worrying about it. It can’t be a molt as he’s only 3-3.5 months old.

Any idea what could that be?

I clean his cage often, wipe the dust, change the water everyday and his diet mainly consists of pellets, vegetables and some fruits.

I have an appointment to the vet on Saturday for nail trimming and of course I will ask about this. But maybe someone has any knowledge on this matter?

I will attach some pictures so you could see what I’m talking about.

Welcome. I'm glad you're reaching out. I don't know a lot about medical issues, but if you decide to pursue professional veterinary help...

In my opinion, any of the vets listed here should be better than a regular vet, although exceptions do exist!
Sometimes, it helps just to Google "avian veterinarian - [YOUR LOCATION]"

With any luck, it's just a bad molt!

But definitely something to keep an eye on and ask the vet about to be sure!
