I would really love it, if we could do a section for the ringnecks... A lot of people have Alexandrines and other Indian ringnecks... I really don't feel they belong in the parakeet section, since they are a breed all of their own...

I agree that the Parakeet section needs to be re-organized. The way it is at the moment, it encompasses a hodge-podge, muddy-murky mix of completely random/unrelated species. Actually, the term "Parakeet" is now outdated as a term of classification anyway, I think. So many unrelated species have the name "parakeet" tagged on the end. A lot of methodical people now just replace that "parakeet" tag with the word "parrot". For example, the Derbyan "parakeet" can be unambiguously called the Derbyan parrot. What does "parakeet" really mean, anyway, except a slim-lined bird with a long tail? I would support a re-organization of the "Parakeet" forum based on the scientific principles of molecular phylogenetics.

I also agree that they could be split into three sections, cockatiels, budgerigars and asiatic parrots.

Thank you! IRNs were one of the first birds kept as a pet, but its still hard to find species specific info on them. Everything is generic and for beginners.

I totally agree with you, Lene. They don't really have much in common with budgies or cockatiels, do they? Conures are technically parakeets also but they have their own section.

Yes, it looks like they have bundled small birds into the parakeet section, if they wouldn't fit anywhere else - like conures...

The cockatiels should be in the cockatoo section - Their closest relative - genewise - is the Redtailed Black Cockatoo...

There are so many ringneck species out there, and I really think they should have their own section... Ringnecks are not just Asiatic, there are Australian and African ringnecks... but I'll be happy, if we can get a ringneck or asiatic section...

Aren't birds like moustached parakeets and Derbayans related? A sections for ringnecks, Alexandrines and all those would be better than lumping them in with budgies and cockatiels.

Yes, I totally agree! I'm possibly getting a ringneck and have loads of questions, but where to put them??? Parakeet isn the end of alot of different parrot names, Alexandrines and IRNs need a place, not just thrown in with budgies and parakeets. Not be rude, but yaaaaa... =)

I'm actually quite surprised that there isn't more attention on budgies... yes they are sometimes regarded as the easier types of parrots to keep, but i thought it was quite a culture to breed certain colour and pattern phenotypes for shows and things?...

I really think there should just be a WHOLE PSITTACULA SECTION.. I dont feel my plumhead should be listed with cockatiels budgies and parakeets, she is much more like the IRNs. That family of bird is different and very interesting!

Linnies aren't real parakeets either and I feel like small birds just get lumped together on this forum, like you have less than a parrot if they are small or have the "parakeet" tag behind it. If you have known a linnie you know how much parrot they really are and that they are completely different than a budgie. Cocketeils and budgies, they are a complete subject on their own, as well as the other "parakeet" birds.
