forgive me if this has already been done.
I know from experience toy awareness is so vitally important when owning a bird/parrot.

It can make or break a life.

I would dearly love to see a new section on here just for toy's, "toy awareness."
the good and the bad....what you like about them, or what you find wrong with them. this can be catered to the individual species of bird.

ie: for example, you would not purchase a budgie toy for a macaw:rolleyes:

types of toys designed SPECIFICALLY for the type of parrot is one of the key components in regards to safety.

there are so many variations of toys, they look fabulous, oh so pretty with all the wonderful colours that they offer, however some can be deadly.

this forum has so many wonderful facets, but knowledge is the key to this successful forum!

for example, a new member signs onto here, not really having a good knowledge of owning a parrot, they can search the sections on the species of birds, and receive all sorts of knowledge, however I feel a key component is missing,.... knowledge of toys.

members on here can post what they find interesting about the toy, what they love, best place to purchase the toy... maybe some issues that have arisen with that particular toy, and could potentially save a life.

We all love toys, it's an important aspect of a birds development, and SAFETY is the utmost important facet of a good toy.

I agree. Even those of us who can't buy the toys you get in the US can do with the information.

That's a great idea! If a toy section is made someone should make a sticky for toys 101(what is safe or not safe) for new parronts to see. A lot of toys have hidden dangers, even toy dyes can be dangerous because the company's don't always bother to use food dyie

I think that's a great idea. It is so scary to think that toys are sold that can maim or kill, and so hard to know what to get. You would think that if a toy is marketed for birds, it would have to be safe. Knowing that this isn't true could definitely save lives and heartbreak.

see....I learned something already....Ashley made a very good point!

dyes that are used on the toys can be harmful.....but how would one find out what type of die is being used and the safety behind it?

contacting the manufacturer I guess would be a start.

another thing we could add to this section are 'home made toys" safe or not safe?

we could really run with this, even thinking 'outside the box' as well.

for example toilet paper rolls, are they safe?
the cardboard holders when getting numerous coffees in the morning... are they safe?....just suggestions if this is approved :)

yes, some of us are limited to certain toys to buy for our fids.
even though we have plenty of toys here in Canada, some other countries still can order on line, I know I have ordered from the U.S. due to being unable to purchase it here in Canada.

Galah - Nigel
That would be great, I'm picking up my galah in a week and went to my local pet shop yesterday and stood there for ages trying to decide on toys because I've never owned a bird before and wasn't sure what he would enjoy or what was safe.
