I agree with the "Nays"...Sometimes I'm off because of my work schedule and playing with clark or catching up on movies and I can't make it back for a few days. If someone wanted to make a IRC channel completely independent of the entire site that people could go to then I suppose that would be fine, I've modded a few IRC chats years ago when I was younger.... but I like to be able to catch up on the threads when I'm able to make it back and not miss anything....It's better for my education.

I can understand both sides of the issue, how about a compromise.

How about listing somewhere in your user profile your Skype address or whatever you use most often.

edit.

This is an old thread. My personal objection to a Discord server is that Discord facilitates rapid, real time chat and that’s not always the best idea for parrots. We have a lot of people dropping in saying I’m thinking of getting a parrot, what’s the best parrot, what should I feed my parrot…and often the first quick responses are not high quality answers. We have a lot of members here with deep experience, but it takes time for them to respond. Discord is great for gamers, who often collaborate in real time during play, and quick responses are needed for gaming. Parrots are for the long term, and the more people slow down and think and compare and do further research, the better. Now, an exception might be for medical emergencies, but even then the best response is usually “call the nearest avian vet”!

Anyone can start a Discord server for free. I started one for a gaming group. So if some of you want to do that, go right ahead. Maybe keep an eye on the activity and be prepared to shut it down if something looks like it could be harmful for parrot or parrot-keeper welfare?
