Wishing for a Bourke's section

I wish the forum would consider adding a Bourke's section under Species Specific, that is apart from the Budgies/parakeets.

Bourke's are different enough from Budgies and parakeets, in many ways, to have their own section. From their observed behavior, to the fact that they have a different physical structure (they dont climb), they are different in significant ways. Their personalities and even the environment they come from in Australia, is different from Budgies and the other grass parrots.

Personally, find myself having to explain these differences over and over in my posts, so that I dont waste people's time in giving advice that might not apply to them.

Additionally, they seem to be growing in popularity. I think due to their pink coloring, maybe; or possibly because they are quieter birds than all of the other small birds.

However, the information on them, out there, doesnt seem to be growing much.
And I think it would be a good thing to have a separate area, here, where they can be discussed. Where new scientific and personal anecdote can be brought in, and be used as a resource, for people who have Bourke's

Also a pink parakeet emoji would also be cool. I can wish

Re: Wishing for a Bourke's section

Or maybe a section 'Bourkes and grass parrots'? This is at the other parrot forum. For many years they were the one genus but due other color, behaviour etc, nowadays they are 2 different genera. I have Bourkes too and I agree with you, they are different from other parakeets

Re: Wishing for a Bourke's section

I will post a thread in the moderator forum to discuss. Over time the species-specific count has increased, will see what we can do!

Thanks for the suggestion!!

The pink is eye catching, for sure

Ive got a couple of rosy colored ones, but my actual preference is for the 'normals.' They have an array of colors, all tucked under their normal wild looking top feathers.

I adopted my rosies, just by chance. I love them so much. Theyre a bit tinier than budgies, and other grass parakeets, and they arent an aggressive pink. Theyre mostly pink and pebbled gray. The first word that comes to mind, is diamond. I dont know if thats just my love for them coloring my perspective or not ;p They are petite and pretty, and have a soft chirp.

Since I have never had birds before this, I also didnt realize how much they communicate with their eyes. The are black-eyed, and my female especially has large ones that are so soulful. She truly is beautiful. I wish i had a good camera. I want to get some good pics of them to post eventually.

It's hard to say you love a birds look more than others, sometimes, but I really think your turquoise conure is absolutely gorgeous. The coloring, of the bright green and turquoise under the light, reminds me of a hummingbird.

Id be happy if there was a Bourke's AND a grass parrots section, separate, because I find that they Bourke's are significantly different from the other grass parrots. Nearly every reputable source goes out of their way to mention the differences. I really think they deserve their own special section. If only to not have to constantly explain over and over why things that apply to the other grass keets, do not apply to Bourke's.

I want to know more about your Bourke's! At some point, I would love to have at least a couple more that my guys can hang with, in their bird room. I find the other grass parakeets, like splendids and others, gorgeous, too.

Also, I see a lot of beautiful Chinese Crested dogs coming from Polish breeders. I love these little guys, and I love how they breed them in Northern and Eastern Europe to be thicker than delicate, like they are bred in the US.

Me too! I met one briefly over a year ago, passing through a pet shop of all places. And the lil guy walked up on my finger and just sat there, and I fell in love. Maybe thats why the words 'diamond' and 'gem' come to mind, come to think of it
