Budgie's food & toys

Hi to everyone ! I have two budgies (which btw were sick but now they are healthy :) again -thanks to everyone who helped me with that too- ).

So, I want to ask if someone has any ideas about what (and how) I should feed them now so that they will be way healthier. I have read that a good option is to give them chop but I have been giving them chop for a long time with different kinds of fruits and veggies but they eat only the carrots! I tried adding seeds in the mixture but that didn't help either. I am pretty sure I tried everything, but if someone has any idea how I can make them eat healthier please tell me! Also I read that you can give them rice, is that true? And if it is can I give them "white" rice instead of brown ?

Another thing I would like to ask is what type of toys can I give to my budgies ?? I bought a wooden toy but they are not interested in it at all. I see that they are bored all day and they don't have anything to do. I make them sometimes a DIY toy with toilet paper roll (that I saw on YouTube) and they seem to like it. Do you know what can I make/buy for them so that they will have something to do during the day?

Thanks and sorry for the big text and my bad english!

All are rescues- had to leave their previous homes for 'reasons', are still in contact with them :)
LOL your english is just fine -- you are very clear.

If your birds only eat the carrots out of the chop ...make chop without carrots -> they will have to try something else ;)

White rice is basicly peeled brown rice -and almost all the usefull nutrients are in the peel ( unfortunately).
So if you feed rice just for calories, you can give them white as well-- but if you want them to eat healthy : brown is your friend.

There are many different toys you can make from cardboard, drinking straws etc. there are a lot in the DIY (= Do It Yourself) section here on the forumpages or on the internet, just google "DIY parrottoys".

You can also make food into toys-- big edible leaves are great to hang in the cage and let them shred them ... easy and fun!
(if you make the leaf a bit wet they can also take a sort of bath in/on them)
Put pieces of carrot on a stick and hang it, so they can swing from it while they eat.

I repeat what ChristaNL says. Mine love whole leaf veggies I hang the leaves of bok choy, romaine, spinach and the nibble on them. I tied a stick to a Paracord and one loves to pull the stick up and down, you can run plastic beads , mine really like to crunch very toatsed whole weather bread, they can roll around plastic balls. Mine love swings.

Thanks! I will try to find and make more DIY toys for them to play with. Now when it comes to leaves, they hate them! I tried hanging some lettuce leaves and they didn't even go near them!! However, I will try making chop without carrots this time! I hope they will try it!
