Have you ever wanted to appreciate a particularly excellent post, but all you can do is say "thanks" which doesn't begin to express your feelings? If you look at the upper right of a post there are some little icons. The rightmost one is to report a post, say it's especially evil or otherwise needs flagged. The next ico to the left of that...to my eye it looks like a stack of laboratory balances...you click that, and you can add a reputation comment. I never noticed it before. Sorry for all the reputations I didn't give out!

The "Reputation" icon is a neat tool that has been quietly sitting for a very long time! I like the concept, but believe that the definitions need a major up-grade to really make it useful!

At present, three stars is 'average!' So, does three Stars really add to someones reputation? Its like "Hey, look here - its an average Thread /Post!" So, how does that add to one's reputation?

It would seem to me that a single Star should be some place over 'average' and grow in value as each additional Star is added.

What do you think?

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Definitely a great tool to add something more than a "thanks," but it is somewhat cumbersome to read your rep. Other forums have different presentations that makes reading your "rep" easier.

It is always nice when someone gives you rep but a little frustrating not to be able to acknowledge or thank the sender who is anonymous?

I thought the star ratings and rep are different tools?

The most recent reputations are on the User CP page below subscribed threads. But you don't get a message about it, just have to check now and then.

That is why it is cumbersome and not used to full potential. Another forum I frequent has a drop-down notification and link to the "rep" page. Just one click to access and read, back-space to return to previous.
