Hi, we have a female budgie 6yo. Tail feathers stopped growing back more than 6 months ago so can't fly but otherwise seemed happy and healthy. Now i see a big problem with her vent.

I will take her to the vet again but they are not specialists so a

Welcome to ParrotForums.

THis appears to be a prolapse, where internal organs are protruding outside the body, her vent in this case. However, none of us here on PF are avian vets or otherwise medically qualified. Any opinions you get are worth exactly what you paid for them. Having siad that, this needs to be seen by a real Certified Avian Vet, not a dog and cat vet. Prolapse as you might guess, is a serious condition.

THe best of luck to you two.

Thanks - unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a specialist anywhere we can realistic ally get to. Our local pet vets are very good, just not avian specialists so if there is any info / advice / experience we can go in with to help it would be great.

Can your local vet liaise with an avian specialist by phone? I'm not sure exactly where in the world you are, but there may be a bird specialist on this list that your vet might be able to contact ...

I hope someone can help your little one! 🙏

Thanks for all the advice so far. The vet was very good. It seems that a lot of what we were looking at was an infection. She drained and cleaned it and gave us an antibiotic. What caused it might be another question but we probably have to give it a week to see how it goes.
