Went and saw Lara Joseph in April and am so glad I did! It kind of felt like meeting an old friend, as we used to belong to the same forum years ago.
I decided I just had to go since she was within driving distance to me! Owners, trainers, zoo keepers and some other came to the event! The event was on Saturday, April 19th, 2014, held between 10am and 6pm at the Romberg Tiburon Center for Environment Studies in Tiburon, CA.
From where I live to the event, it was about a 3 1/2-4 hr drive at least, so I stayed with a friend in Rohnert Park the night before and drove to the event the following morning. Got there and parked. There's this old water tower there that was apparently used to help train fire fighters!
Had a great view of the water!
And a nice view from the back of the building! (behind the water tower!)
The volunteer animals were Stevie Bird, the Umbrella Cockatoo and Jenny, the chocolate lab!
Overall, it was a great group of people and a great presentation by Lara! There was brunch, lunch and snacks provided throughout the day, Lara's informative presentation, some live demonstrations and a lot of information being learned! Plus, there was some "human games" that were a blast!
I did not want to go home at the end of the day! I so enjoyed the greenery of the bay area and the nice weather! Wasn't ready to go home to the dreary and dry desert of Nevada! It's pretty much brown.... and yellow! LOL
Here's a video of Stevie Bird and the unique way in which positive reinforcement training was applied! *Everyone* had a blast! We were really cheering him on!
