Prayers for our community in Lewiston/Auburn, Maine

Folks have likely heard about last night's mass shooting in Maine. This hits waaaaay too close to home for me. Literally close to home. I live in a bordering small town. We have friends with family members that were killed in this senseless attack. My business is closed this morning, as are most local businesses, as we're under a county wide shelter in place advisory while the shooter is still at large. The feeling can only be described as surreal. We've received messages from friends and family all over the world, checking if we're okay and safe. Thank goodness, we are, but there's so many from our local community who are not.

I'd like to ask for prayers for everyone affected by this horrific event, and for all the law enforcement, hospital crews, and anyone tasked with handling the aftermath. 🙏🙏🙏

We're hoping the shooter is found before more lives are taken. The unthinkable has happened in our small community, and we come together to help each other in whatever ways we can.

Still haven't found the guy yet. Press conference this morning gave the official confirmed numbers. 18 murdered and 13 injured. 😭

I had to run an emergency delivery this morning. Sooooo weird out there with almost zero traffic and all the businesses closed, even gas stations and grocery stores. The trip in town took me past one of the locations, and the media is still swarming there. These are things we just don't see in small town USA. The shelter in place advisory has been expanded to our county and part of the one next to us, and extended for another day. Sheesh!

When I first hear of the general location, I wonder how close it may have been. You are so correct that this is something that small town America just does not see.

Hallelujah! He's been found... Dead by self inflicted gunshot wound. Press conference tomorrow morning at 10:00 with more details, they said. Rumors are that his body was found in a redemption center dumpster, a location he previously worked at. Hopefully we'll find out if that's true in the morning. It would be an appropriate place for him to end up. Either way, we can sleep tonight without worrying he's going to show up in my yard, home, or business.

And I thought things like this didn't happen in our backyard in the safest state in the country! We were nervous here, too, only 25 miles away. So relieved the shooter was found dead, which is what I had predicted.

Yup, just 5 miles from us, but we deliver all over Lewiston and surrounding areas, and my grandkids go to daycare just a few hundred yards from the bowling alley. Terrifying.

Quite a few of my coworkers here at Lowe's called out to work. Afraid of shooter showing up. Big Box stores can be targets. My family was worried but I still went to work all week. Had Lowes been 10 miles closer to Lewiston I wouldn't have gone in. I don't know if the Auburn store (less than 10 miles away) closed.

Auburn closed. Everything in Lewiston/Auburn closed. Grocery stores, gas stations, convenience stores. Everything. My store closed Thursday, but we did closed door yesterday, escorting customers in one at a time so they could get what they needed. Today was a madhouse playing catch up from the previous two days of craziness.
