biteing when asked to step up whats wrong?

Hello, my Yellow naped amazon is pretty friendly, had him for about 2 years, and thats how old he is too. He trust me pretty well, he use dto step up when he was like 4 months old for about a month then i got really busy only had time to talk to him and let him out fly a little and play but I had stopped handdling him. Now if i put my hand uder his feet so he can step up he will try to bite but he dosnt bite when I pet him or give him food I can even hand feed him so trust is not a issue seems like he dosnt want to step up or like being handled. he will step up on thi sbaby chair which is what I use to put him back. any tips? thanks you!

Is he biting or could he be using his beak to "steady" his perch. Merlin uses his beak to pull himself up sometimes. Another thought, what do you do when he bites. If you don't continue asking him to step up, he's getting results from biting. He doesnt have to step up.

try a perch, but yeah nut uses her beak to steady herself but sometimes to intentionaly remove some skin, as she is flighted i ask her to follow me lol

I read that they bite unfamiliar perches to ensure that they are strong enough. We find it awful to sit on a chair that collapses under your weight.

Coming close to feed or tuch them under and over can be "not fun" for a perrot. I should try only have the finger near and ask "up". You can anso use a perch

My conure does this a lot too and its my fault, when he would bite, I would pull away scared and it has taught him that he will get a reaction by biting me if I put my finger there for him to step up. He doesn't do it all the time, but it does make me nervy when he does and yes it can be confusing as you can tell he is wanting to be held. Just keep trying and don't react if you get bitten and with time it should stop
