i have decided not to clip ollie's wings as i just didnt have the heart to do it. we were told by the pet store to come back and have his wings clipped the moment he could fly to make sure he wouldnt fly away. we decided to give him a week more to fly but that one week turned into probably forever.

he flew off one day when he opened one of the cage doors himself, i was in school and no one realised he was missing until much later. we walked the neighbourhood a few times calling him with no response. it wasnt until that night when a neighbour returned him!thank god for that:D he was probably trying to come home but flew into the wrong house. but that experience made us realize the dangers of having a fully flighted bird. since i could not bear to clip him i would have to work very hard on recall with him. progress has been good he flies to me about 95% of the time and dosent fly to me only when he's really engrossed in something interesting like the shiny watch on my dad's hand:rolleyes:
theres a problem though, i cant get him to stay in a place and walk further before calling him. he's like a magnet!!the moment i walk 1 or 2 step he flies to me already, i admit thats actually quite a good thing but it also means i cant practice longer distance recalls with him:confused: any ideas on how to make him stay? i consulted someone that free flies parrots here and the suggestion is to chain him to a perch for a few days so that he'll learn to stay there. i cannot say i agree with that method so i'm looking for some alternatives:) help will definitely be appreciated!!:D:D

i'm not a fan of chaining either although it is commonly used here.
but even when someone is holding him he still can fly away whenever he feels like it:O hes not very good at keeping still hahaha:p
thanks for the links!I have read most of them and they are very helpful!!

i am recall training my quaker cooper. i have the exact opposite problem. he doesnt want to even take off. haha. i have already trained him the "go to perch" command. but i can get him back :D what i started doing and worked is going from another person to me. he takes off from people fine, and if he doesnt you can give him a little nudge in the right direction. and eventually ill move over to the perch.
