Hi! So yeah anyone who has a rainbow that lorikeet that wants to share tips and experiences can share them here with me!! Also I want to start training mine to use a harness so if anyone has successfully trained a lorikeet to use one I would like to know as well!
For now I have trained my almost 1yr old rainbow to turn around, to dance and to lift his foot on command. We are doing progress with flight recall but he won't always respond(he gets distracted a lot or just simply doesn't want to obey). I'm using the nectar as a treat which I give in training no less than 3 times a week. He likes fruits like papaya, apples and grapes but they are messier to use as treats and I have found that he responds better to the nectar so I only feed them in the cage in a separate bowl. He is also comfortable using the carrier and I am now taking him outside. My real goal is to harness train him!!
