I think it's time to start a training program

Hi everyone, as you know my Amazon doolie passed away on mothers day this year. I rescued a severe macaw 6 days later ..year and a half old,was never touched.shes doing really good with us,she talks alittle plays peek a boo, steps up. My question is how and where do I start with target training, clicker training..where do I get a clicker..my plan is to get an aviator harness but I was told there's a dvd with that. I work at night so my days are free to spend time doing this..let me know if you suggest you tube or something else..what do most of you do??

To start you can get a simple clicker at petco or someplace similar. I find a chop stick works well, so other can chime in and give more advise.

The biggest thing with Severe Macs is socialization. These birds, more than any other macaw tend to have "one person" issues. They need to be socialized with a bunch of people, or they tend to become opinionated and bitey...

I think I've already got a severe macaw socialization post or two on this site.

Thanks birdman I think you or someone else told me that. So far she loves me and just recently is getting use to my fiancé . We are doing our best to socialized her with both of us using the unfavored person bonding technics. Her play stand is on a table in the corner next to one of our couches. She climbs down the braided rope and "plays" while we sit and watch TV or whatever. Probably not the best thing to do but we like it.i feel her freedom is important but training this freedom is even more important.
