My GCC, Conlan, is a super fast learner! In the last week he had learned and perfected:

Shake my finger
Gimmee kiss
Spin
Around(where while on my finger or stand he rolls under and back over, a flip)
Wave

It's unbelievable how quick he gets the trick.

HOWEVER.... When I ask him for a kiss or to shake my finger he does the action but BITES. He's bruised my lip already and my finger is a chew toy. I tried not giving him the treat when he does bite but then he gets frustrated when he does the trick and gets nothing.

How do I stop this?:confused:

Kyo is into kind of sucking on my finger... it's a weird thing, she puts her beak over it and gently gnaws and licks it, once in a while a bit too hard. I wonder if conlan is looking to do something similar and just being too rough? I know Kyo doesn't do it to be mean, she's just not good at gaging how hard she is nibbling for the most part with me.

Now, with Hubby she has her good days and she has her bad days. Today for instance, after almost 2 weeks without harming him, she suddenly decided that his hands must die. :p Just how they are sometimes!

No, it's an actual bite. He tweeks really hard. And when he gets flustered he fluffs up and opens his beak at me and longes forward on his perch to bite. He's 50% Angel 50% Demon lol. One minute he's on my shoulder chewing my hair and being sweet, the next he's attacking my hand when I ask him to get down and biting my cheek.

And now I'm not as afraid as I was and I have no problems grabbing him mid bite, so I'm not sure if it's just that he's not use to me being unafraid or what..

Try these things. When he bites say no in a stern voice, then turn around and ignore him for like 3 seconds. Do this every time, it will show him that his actions will get him nothing. What ever you do, don't react to the bite or pull away. Push towards him when he bites and it will knock him off balance, associating the behavior with losing balance. And in general, don't let a bird on your shoulder if they bite your face. You basically want to eliminate his chances ot get your fingers and if he does, say no and ignore him.

I do the "no" thing but I gently take her beak between my fingers and and tell her "gentle". Now instead of asking her for kisses I ask for "gentle kisses". She used to bite all the time up until the last month but I found that even if she would bite my face I would tell her gentle and push her over with my head or chin. She has really calmed down and this has worked great for me. She's a Green Cheek and they are known to bite all the time. The little "pitbull" in her. She's the smallest brute. Anyway this took a couple of weeks and now I'm glad I did what I did. :)

Conlan by the way, how did you get her to shake your hand? I want to teach mine how to wave. I submitted another thread this morning about order of training. Mine is already target trained but what's next?

With the wave and shake I followed the same starting pattern. Use your finger and go towards the get, like your going to ask for Step Up. With waving, dint let her touch your finger with her foot, but when she picks it up reward her. After she gets the motion down, use your other finger and voice to 'wave'. I just bob/ wave my Pinter finger like I'm scratching the air. Soon she makes the connection.

With 'shake' I started the same but actually let her put on for on my finger but don't let her step up. When she understood I only wanted 1 foot, I gently 'shook her hand'.

She's amazing now. She also knows,
Yes(nodding)
No (shaking her head)
Kiss( she gives kisses and the sound)
Eagle (she lifts her wings)

YouTube is where I found how to's from HowCast. Just search Teach your bird tricks :)

That is amazing!! Thank you! I know my GCC will be open to learn new things. My Sun is afraid of everything and will only do certain things right now. She came from an abusive home so doesn't like hands at all and is afraid of her own shadow. Right now she does do target training and I'm feeding her out of my hand. I haven't had much time to work with her and we've had her for a long time. I do spend time with them out of the cage but haven't done a lot of training because my husbands been sick for a long time and taking care of him is 24/7.
