Weird training problem

Anyone have a tame bird who will not take treats from you? He attacks anything I try to give him! He is perfectly tame though. He steps up and let's me pet him. I can touch him nearly anywhere and he's fine. As soon as I try to feed him something, he lunges at it and bites.

I'm wanting to start training him just to do little tricks and hopefully stay on a training perch or play stand while I clean his cage but I have to get him over this weird thing first.

Any advice?

When I first got doolie..rest his soul...he wouldn't take anything from me. I had to taste it in front of him..say..mmmmm.then show him the treat and say it's ok,it's ok.one day he took it out of my hand.but I found doolie in someone's backyard, left to die in a cage,he was badly abused,so I never expected him to come around as fast as he did. Try different things, baby food works great, fruit variety.

Try holding the treat further back so that he has to lean in order to barely grab it. Also, while starting out..its okay to try bigger treats to save your fingers. You can reduce the size as you gain comfort. Birds have to lean how to calmly take the treat. Its part of the training process.

Perhaps your parrot isnt into treats as a reward perhaps a pet or head scratch means more to it than the treat ...my little quaker Peter Pan attacks food in my hand (she doesnt bite me just beak butts the treat)and after attacking it then gently takes it, but for trick training I only use verbal praise and lots of head scratches with her as she responds way better for them than for treats...some birds are just different my WFA Mr Biggles has to get treats when he is learning tricks and would do anything for a tiny slice of a peanut :)
