4 budgies, 1 pineapple green cheek conure
I haven't posted here much but a year ago I got a conure that I named Toby, he was terrified of hands and when I got him the people selling him grabbed him with gloves and put him in a little cardboard box to give him to me. He was freaking out the whole time but calmed down when we got home. He only took about a week to warm up to me and would let me scratch his head but wouldn't step up and would bite my fingers if I offered them for him to step up. Fast forward to a couple months ago and I found out that Toby is actually a girl and she seems to think I am a very attractive bird 😂. I have earned her trust through respecting her body language and, of course, giving her lots of yummy treats. She has now become comfortable with me touching just about every part of her (excluding the area around the base of her tail and lower back which I avoid for obvious reasons) and just about a week ago let me gently lift up her wings a bit. She tries to "protect" me from people and bites anyone that she thinks is getting too close. Nobody else has been able to gain her trust and I'm the only person that can confidently hold her without worrying about getting bitten as long as I watch her body language. The funny thing is she seems to like my boyfriend and will preen his hair and gently nibble his ear. She has such a personality and I have come to love conures and have learned a lot in just the year that I have had her. I'm looking forward to a hopefully long journey with her and the joy that she has to share.

What a lovely update, and such lovely pics too! There are few things nicer in the world than when we earn the trust of our feathered babies, in my opinion anyway. GCCs are so full of sass and personality, and I hope you'll update and share pics more often 💖
