Wow this seems way high to me He is pretty but man that is steep. I am not sure I agree with such a high adoption fee (unless that much was put into a bird) Adoptable Macaw: Chipawah: Petfinder

I'd pay that... they cost about $8000 here, Hyacinth's sell for up to $40,000 (there's only 1 or 2 breeders in Australia). I guess the cage is nice and big at least. I can't really comment though as I don't know what Mac's go for in the US.

Macaws are going for about $1000+ retail over here, second-hand has been as low as $300 (rarely, but true).

Wow! The nearest macaw here is one for hire in Melbourne I think. If I had the money I'd go for it. But didn't the guy say the cage was a dome? I hate dome cages.

I just that post and it said $900.00 for the bird and $900.00 for the cage Are they saying you have to buy the cage and the bird together?

Yeah says he came with the cage but then said 900 for cage too and you have to buy the cage.

900 for a Macaw doesn't sounds UNreasonable. Neither does 900 for a cage.

Certainly you can fine cheaper, but this isn't really outside the normal range.

I have just found a one year old here in NSW looking for a new home - $700!! Have made enquires... watch this space

Im with AD. To put together Dusty's set up was $1,000+
not including the price of Dusty himself...

So seeing a larger bird go for $1800 ($900 bird, $900 cage) really doesnt seem that bad.

I suppose but tack on another $600 for a cage I like since I dont care for dome cages, plus another $100 for toys and food, then $50 for vet exam plus another 200 for play gym and it just seems better to buy from a breeder which I prefer not to I like to help homless birds out.

Don't ask what we spent getting Jade set up. Ruby's actual cost to the breeder is less, but we had to get a cage for her - so she won't be quite as expensive, but close.

Not such a bad deal on the pair. A retail B&G is 12-1400 and a new cage, depending on the purchase site could be 900. I think that "adoption fee" is misleading...just tell me you want to sell your bird, no soft soap please. However, as previously posted, you can easily spend another 1000 on toys, perches, food, vet visit, medical tests, etc....a deal, not a great deal. It however is the perfect deal if you and the bird really take to each other....:)
