I finally have some questions to ask! yay :p

So firstly, do pumice perches work?

Fargos nails were sharp and long, i clipped them down the other day, he doesnt mind me clipping them, and then he wore them down himself, so now i am finally not getting cuts all over me! My arms and hands look pretty haha

H
e has 2 different pedicure perches, but they dont help, they get long and sharp, so i was wondering if the pumice ones actually keep the nails short and not sharp, or do i just continue clipping them myself and he smoothes them out.. I dont mind doing this but if they work then it would be easier!

They are 35 dollars here so dont want to get something that doesnt work :p
Also the large size is- 1-1/2" x 13" - Recommended for Greys, Amazons, Eclectus and other similar size birds.

So they dont come in sizes for macaw?

Second question!

Its coming into winter here :D yay! Being in the mountains of Australia it gets cold, i have no idea what temperature, i think about 10 degrees maybe during the day, and then night time our water troughs freeze and frost everywhere, so below 0 ? and then usually windy!

I know birds can handle different temperatures if they are given the time to adjust, but i would rather just make Fargo warmer at night! Of course i would keep the windows closed so he couldnt get a draft, but his cage is in the corner of the door and window!

Covering would be the easiest, i did cover him his first week home, but for the past 6 months he hasnt had a cover on

I know those snuggle tents are said to lead to aggression, there are 3 other snuggly type things i have found however..

The snuggle ring, which is just a ring/swing with the soft material all around it..

The birdy buddy, which is like a soft material piece which they can snuggle into

Or this soft material hammock kinda thing, which i thought Fargo would like cause he loves being on flat surfaces anyway

So would any of those 3 things lead to aggression or nesting behaviour or are they safe ?

Thanks! :)

I can give you an answer for the pumice perch. I have been using it for my alexandrines and it works fine c: No more scratches from them. They also love to brush the beaks along it. Well it was working fine until they chew the bit which held the pumice on and now they have broken it. So Im going to have to get them a new one.

I am unsure about winter though. I have been covering my guys on the colder nights they don't seem too worried. I never cover them as well(Not since last winter for Alex/Yuki). I only started this week and it seems to be going fine so far. Maybe try and cover him on a cooler night to see how it works out?

If available, there are also heated perches as well as heat panels or even heat bulbs you could use. My birds have done fine with winter temperatures in the 50's (Fahrenheit) at night without issues. Birds have feathers, and even downy feathers, so it's of my opinion that they can handle colder temperatures than we can. However, heat not so much!

Well idk about the pumice perches I've used them and they have never worked for me. .. And I have tried them on all different types of birds and so on.

As for the other products I can't say they would lead to aggression, but I think covering or maybe using a safe heater in your room would be adequate;)
