I am my gentle and family loving GW macaws mate. He is perfect except that every 3-6 months he will bite me (to kill me it seems) really aggressively. For the life of me, I cannot pin point it to anything specific. His aggression towards me used to last hours, then a full day, and just yesterday, it was a 48 hour time frame before I could hold him. Funny thing is, anyone else could handle him. As soon as he saw me, he would become very aggressive. He woke up this morning the same sweet bird. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum!!!

Is there anyone else in the household that he prefers???

Thanks Mikey for welcoming me and responding. I was wondering if I posted correctly. Yes, he will go to anyone, but prefers to be with me, I thought. I guess I don't know that for sure. He loves my husband and my 2 young adult sons, too. He will cuddle with any of us. He has never been aggressive with any of them, just me.

There may be something in the voice, hair length, etc. They can be weird like that. The best thing for you to do right now is positive reinforcement by praising him when he does something good. Play games with him such as peek-a-boo, my macaws loves that game. Are you the main one that feeds him and give him treats? If so, keep it that way. Keep a training stick near by at all times, if he becomes aggressive and refuse to step up, place the stick on one side of him and put your arm on the other side. He should willingly step up without much fuss. You basically want to keep him occupied while he's on you so he won't show any aggression while he's on you. So you can give him something to chew on or treats he can stuff his face with.

yes, I spend the most time with him. My son thinks he is doing this because I spend too much time with him..! But now after reading a lot of these posts, maybe I'm not his favorite after all :( Thanks Mikey, I will continue to do those things you suggested.
