Hi everyone, just wanted to check in and give a Maui update. I know there are a few of us with young males. We have had Maui for 3.5 months now. Every week his personality improves. He has proven to be very smart, but pretty quiet...just a good bird. Very sweet, yet he continues to get sweeter. My worry was not a ton of playtime, just likes hanging out...

Well, in the last two weeks wow... Playing, talking, never quiet during the day, but doesn't scream, just chatter. i would like to say to all of the concerned NEW owners like me... Be patient! All of the senior members tell us this. It's true!

In the last two weeks he is also playing in the shower. He has always enjoyed the shower but only now playing.

He has broken a ton of feathers, looked like a misfit - also lost a lot of down feathers. New yellow tipped tail feathers coming in now. Starting to land with a little bit of grace! So nice to not worry about broken twisted feathers.

Wonder what I am in for the next 3 months? His current weight is 370, hope that is okay.

Oh how handsome your Maui is!!! My little boy Oliver is almost eight months old. He seems to go through different chatty spurts. As of late he's very quiet unless I'm brushing my teeth or turning on the water. In the shower I hold him under the water spray then put him on the perch leaving little play activity. Do you put Maui on the floor or the perch under the flow of water?

Very handsome boy!

Thanks for sharing the picture. Very beautiful. I love seeing and learning about all the different birds.

He showers with me on the perch. We have a double shower. Towards the end, when he is soaked, I place him on the floor. He walks around a bit but isn't a big fan. :). So this active behavior could be just a spell... Interesting, this is so much fun.
