A BAD review for A&E cage

Actually, SO MANY playstands, toy chains and hangers, bowls etc, are NOT stainless steel, and despite that, birds aren't dying right and left.

That being said, the non stainless screws which contain heavy metals, would have to be literally chewed on to cause problems I believe. I don't know for sure if it would cause any problems at all actually, as many times pieces need to be swallowed to cause harm. I just got paranoid cause Griffin was attracted to the shiny screws, and covered them and will replace them anyway.

Honestly, like I said above, not EVERY piece of metal in any birds cage is all made of stainless steel, and they're fine. What we do need to be aware of is toys and objects which have small removable parts that they can accidentally swallow.

Update:
So the only "good" news about this cage is... They're shipping me a new presumably non-defective playtop :)

I've been in contact with Petco.com customer service (which is great btw :smile049:), and after sending them the necessary pictures for proof, they worked on getting me a replacement playtop from the A&E company.

I can't wait to bolt it on, and dump the other one! :)

Julie, after what you've been through, I hope this play top is perfect.

Don't dump the other one, you can make something out of it and use the parts!!

Petco customer service took care of my problem too!!

So glad it worked out for you too, we both did the 20% off email signup AND the sale they were having at the same time
(they should not of let us do that LOL)

I got a AE9004030 and ended up paying about $421  delivered
(and I love the cage, very nice and strong for the price point)

All mass produced objects have the occasional clunker, but YEAH I'd want my money back too!

That's right! I can keep the other and do something with it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I think maybe the larger cages are made a little better. More attention to detail and construction since bigger birds will be in there.

I've been following this thread with great interest, especially because I have 3 A&E cages, in 3 different sizes, the smallest one being 36X30, all are dome tops. The only issue I had with one of them was I stripped one of the screws. :54:

I have to admit that even though I'm quite pleased with the cages, they're not nearly made as well as my Kings cage (Model #506).

Laura (labell) has told me that a LOT of complaints have been made against A&E as of late, possibly because the factory has moved?

Interesting Wendy. I remember you have A&E. Maybe something did happen to quality control? Then again, Joe and I got our cages at the same time, and his is fine. Maybe it's worse on the little cages. I didn't even mention it, but something else was I found in two places in the cage, sharp pointy pieces of metal almost like a needle 1/4" long  just sticking out!! I cut and filed them of course. Also a pet peeve, when the door is open, it only opens at the widest, 7"! Hard to get your hands and arms in there to clean. Hellooo? What were they thinking?
Mine really seems like something you'd get at the .99 store, if they sold parrot cages

I got an a &e 8040 got it 2 months ago and its great got it on ebay for 760 free shipping but they did send the wrong one. I paid for the 68x30 double macaw and got the 80x40 double macaw. it shipped from a&e where house and got here in 3 days.
and came with swings perches and large toys for free

So you got the bigger cage (accidentally) for the price of the other one?!

From what I hear, I do believe the larger cages, especially ones made for macaws are built "better" and don't have sharp needle like protrusions sticking out in random areas, and are square or rectangle... Not 'almost' like mine ;)

I did get the new play top, but haven't bolted it on yet to see if this one's good. I wanted SS screws, but luck would have it, the exact ones I need were out of stock at the Home Depot by my house, and haven't had time to look any other places for the same screws.

yeah I got the bigger one for the price of smaller one. didn't want the bigger one had to through out a desk to make more room. I did complain to the guy then he sent me 10 large toys and even two large a&e swings that are about 20 inches wide and hang 18 inches off what ever you hang them on. so I guess I got a great deal.
once you put 3 perches and 3 large toys it fills it up and he still will have room to flap
I wound put a macaw in anything smaller the 48 inches wide they need flap room even if its just a bed cage.

Julie, I am so glad they sent you a new playtop!
I am looking forward to seeing how you re-purpose the wonky one:)
