A different forum??

That group is run by Chris Biro, he's the real deal when it comes to free flighted parrots. The Womachs studied with him and are just cheap knock offs IMO. Micheal started The Parrot Forum after he got banded from the Free Flighted group . Basically he's a rude jerk trying to hussle a dollar. I'd keep with this forum (the best) if you want to keep up with all things Parrot. Join Chris's group if you want to interact with more free flying people. Congrats on the new birdie and best of luck. Hope you still visit with us.

Henpecked , I can't thank you enough for suggesting Chris's sight.
HE IS THE BEST ! He is the one that started the whole free flight
mania here . There are a few people who tried to take advantage of
his hospitality and knowledge of training free flight.

So , that being said l it is the best , knowledgable sight there is , IMO.

thanks Katherine, (my daughter's name, by the way), I love this forum and most of the people on it. This forum has helped me through some hard times with Amigo. Now that I have Sassy, who is like a breath of fresh air compared to growing up with Amigo, I feel at home and will be around to ask many more questions. I never doubt my decision to free fly Amigo, EVER. It was the best for him... but I know other people question my judgement. I'll quit being sensitive and just say **** 'em!

I don't think you should ever doubt your decision. You did what you believed was best for Amigo after many many years of doing everything else. It's turned out beautifully for you. While I can't ever imagine free flying a bird, more so due to location and situation (most people live in the suburbs or even the city or towns), I completely get it and admire it.

Just stay true to who you are and firm in your choices. You're one of the members whose posts I look forward to the most.

Thanks guys, your not getting rid of me yet! I still have a Sassy girl to raise! I'll definitely check out the Chris Biro, freeflight sight, thank you greycloud. I've always been happy with this forum, lots of great info gets shared and quite a few characters bouncing around! I guess that sometimes, I just feel alone on my journey with Amigo. Thanks, again.

Hi please don,t leave I also really enjoy your posts. I envy your ability to free flight Amigo however living in Fla with a little green quaker is not a viable option for me. He is starting to grow his wings back after his moult but I will probably get him clipped again as every room has a ceiling fan as well as both lanis plus glass sliders and a big picture window. I really would prefer that he could fly in the house but I am doing to many what ifs in my head. Alison and sweetie pie:D

I went to that forum to look around. I read several blog entries he'd made and posts and I'll say this- He's passionate, but his youth is evident. I, too, was very black and white in my thinking and thought I had all the answers the rest of the stupid people hadn't been able to work out yet when I was young and dumb. Luckily I grew up and learned better! Hopefully he will too!

hi aliray, I remember having many sleepless nights worrying about, 'was I doing the right thing with Amigo'? My biggest fear was predators but it turns out, he's got a good handle on it. Sometimes, you have to tuck those fears away and let it happen. They learn about windows, hopefully live through the learning process, he will learn the parameters of his territory.

I have to admit I really still am considering not clipping his wings. He was 6 mo old when I bought him and was kept in an open glass cage in the pet shop with no top. so he hes never learned to fly. The owner had had him and hand fed and tamed him in the shop since the age of three weeks. maybe I will at least try him for a while to build up his muscle strength. He climbs all over the place but his only attempts at flying is gliding down to the floor. and once he hit the slider but just glanced off the side and down to the floor. no damage. I am also looking forward to your stories on your new baby. I also love the picture you post of amigo up in the trees. Alison and sweetie pie:D

MareMiller, I personally think you've made the right decision with Amigo. He is completely happy. Yes accidents can happen, if you do loose him earlier than anticipated then at least he was able to live life like birds were meant to live life. I personally would rather my bird be completely happy and feel fulfilled vs. them living longer because they were 'safe' in a cage with their wings clipped (really what kind of life is that for a bird anyway). I dont think its fair for large parrots to be in captivity. Since there are so many here already that are in desperate need of homes, then I feel that its our duty to give them the life that we denied them. I feel that we at least owe them that.

ShreddedOaksAviary also free flights as well. I plan on free flighting Rome when I feel our relationship is strong enough for it. Maybe we could open up a free flight section on the forum? Maybe that might bring in more people who do it or also bring out the current members who do it as well.

Glad you are sticking around. I think it is so incredible what you do with Amigo. The free flight absolutely amazes me. I love hearing stories about it. I think Amigo is a very lucky parrot!!! We all do what we think is best for our particular situation and our parrots. And you certainly have done what is best for Amigo!

Don't you dare leave!!! I'll hunt you down with my flock if you try...lol....

Free flight is not something everyone is comfortable with. So along with some other folks, they get to fly in my house. Free flight my birds is something I dream of and I envy you being able to do it. I have watched all those videos and read those stories of those mentioned that free flight. Perhaps I can do so one day. The one that I know that don't leave my sight is Java, he would be my first candidate if I were to try. Thanks gor always share your stories with us as I enjoy reading them!

I joined, and checked out, the freeflight forum. The moderator told me, from the get-go, that there aren't many people out there that do what I do with Amigo. It seems that many people free fly their birds, in the house or aviaries. There are falconers, and then, people that take their bird out to fly but come back to them when the session is over. I guess, you're stuck with me and Amigo, as odd as we are, we are happy to be here!

Molcan2, I'm all in!!

I would love to try to do free flight with one of my fids(most likely Yuki). I may try it sometime but I wouldn't really know where to start. :p
